W123 300D - inline fuel filter

Hello,

Should a 300D have an inline fuel filter? I had one but have removed it after being told it was not required. The pipe in question (which seems to have been cut) and hence the reason the filter was probably added is the main fuel line, which goes into the lift pump.

I've got a patch on it now but think I should replace that piece of the fuel line. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Yes, it should have. They cost about £1 from German, French and Swedish Car Parts, it sits in the line before the main fuel filter housing.
