No idea Keith, is it some kind of book or ancient industrial revolution artefact?
Maybe John, but all I could think of was a Spanish waiter. Maybe he had a Mercedes??:D

The 4 pots are a bit noisy, no worse than other brands though I don’t think
Depends what the noise is, if it’s a noisy chain type start up I might be concerned a bit

It sounds like the engine mountings but I am not too sure. Selecting forward and reverse watching the engine movement doesn't look like the problem. We are servicing the car in the morning so should see more with the under tray removed.
john. PS glad the manual transmission is keeping you lot entertained.:)

Just imagine if the Automatic box was invented first, and then someone came along and said this Manual Box is much better!!
Men in white coats would have carted him away .Lol.

Higher-mileage engine and the 200 struggles with the weight of the car IMO. Controversial but try 400ml of semi-synth (jaso fb) 2 stroke to a full tank of diesel.

Interested to hear the outcome. Engine mounts are always a possibility especially with 162,000 miles under the belt, normally I’d mention gearbox mounts but I won’t now ... and DMF could be a good call ( not that any of us know what that is by the way)
There was a regular member on here who estewed the merits of manual boxes and got rubbed rotten. Think he’d had enough and left sadly we haven’t seen him in a while...
Never mind we have your manual now ....;)

Only joking I hope you can tell...
If it is the DMF it’s not the end of the world I guess...

Hi all the DMF and clutch is in a poor shape, cant get the parts until Monday, will report back after road test.
Both the petrol 204 and the diesel replacement both being manual were bought to improve reliability and cut down the expense of an auto letting go and costing me money. Didnt work did it.:(:)

Autos should last a long time if given regular fluid changes.

But to be fair if at 160k it's the original DMF that's pretty good going. I had to change the friction plate and DMF on my Bora at 130k.

The parts came today I thought they said Monday, we will be back on it Monday and hopefully after a test drive I should be reporting back. If I had the chance I would attack it in the morning but I cant take the mans job from him, its only fair he started the job so he will have to finish it. I'm like a kid at Christmas. john.

Due to the garage being very busy and a visit to see my Daughter and family I haven't been able to test drive until this morning.
It was the gearbox mount that was the problem as well as the DMF. The car now drives like new, The mounting looked ok but must have been transferring noise to the body as the engine moved when on the road. The DMF would have failed sooner than later so no regrets changing it, the clutch plate was also well worn. The parts needed were DMF, new clutch, water pump, gearbox mounting and thermostat. Hope this might help someone else in the future, thanks all for the input. john.
