Hi all.
Have got a 2010 PF 350CDI and I think the Steering Lock has failed in the “locked” position.
Ive got locks, radio, odometer etc but no dash lights or whirring or starting.
I’ve tried rocking steering while putting key in and out and tried banging shaft. (Hope I haven’t put it into fault mode by trying too many times!)

I’m pretty handy and have read the possibility of removing steering column and replacing just the motor (hoping it won’t need coding).

Anyone done it in the locked position?
Also can I get it out of Park so I can move car?

Thanks in advance

Smart + others :)
Replaced lock both ways, engaged and off. Easy enough to remove column, grind lock nut and captive bolt out. No coding just a green/blue key.

Guys. Thanks for all the replies. Only just seen them! I removed coloumn and drilled the bit of metal that stops the threaded bolt letting me slide the lock out.
Took apart and the motor is really black. Shorted it across 12v and it worked although noisy. I’ve put it back together and tried it in car with airbag connected but no coloumn or dash. Turns the key and the lock worked and radio come on etc. I’m guessing if I had turned once more it would have turned over. I’ll stick another motor in it tomorow and put all back together properly. Hopefully it will start!!!

Ok. To update. I collected new motor and fitted all in reverse. Struggled connecting steering coloum uj so I left to last!
Car started as expected all ok!
Really struggled getting the bottom uj on so had the car running so I could turn steering and admit to trying to Ease it on with a few clumps!

Whilst in the process of these whacks I suddenly get airbag and all the optional lights come up!
Eventually have a cuppa and go back and the uj slides on! But still have Airbag and no buttons on steering wheel working. When you reset airbag it goes off then back on again showing stage 1+2 high resistance.
Have checked the steering coloumn plug. All I can think is I’ve disturbed the ring gear in the wheel with my hammering?

Worth taking airbag and wheel off tomorow to reseat everything?

I think this is is most likely. You didnt spin the wheel more than half a rotation whilst off did you? The clockspring can only turn 3 rotations in either direction before it breaks the ribbon cable internally.

Any how I can check? Is it obvious if I take the steering wheel off tomorow?

Its not always obvious, you will have to strip the colum module and then take it apart, they are fragile and if broken will be difficult to fix.

It should be obvious if you plug in to diag and read the steering angle sensor readout, it will probably not be 0deg at straight ahead if it has moved.

Do not rule out a bad connection etc though.

I’m getting “Lin bus 1 has malfunction” and the 2 hi resistance airbag faults. That’s all that’s showing on a icarsoft

Sorry I will do my research but is a replacement an easy fit? Maybe worth a try?

Its not too hard to fit, but you wont like the cost.

Oh wow really

Just my luck, got away with a £15 motor swap on the steering lock!

Hopeing by belting the bottom UJ onto the coloumn I’ve just knocked something inside the wheel off?

I’ve re checked the electric joint in the column

Wheel off tomorow and fingers crossed
As say it was ok until I started belting the uj and then that’s when it all lit up.

Yes normally 200-300 or so. Do check the connectors as they go into the clip on the colum, as they can be a pig to locate, especially if the clip is broken.

Ok. So have stripped wheel off today. All connections seem tight and re-giggled.

Put all back and same faults:-
U100800 Steering column LIN bus 1 has a malfunction
9B06 Driver Airbag stage 2 excessively high resistance
9B02 Driver Airbag stage 1 has excessively high resistance

They clear but come straight back on.
Horn/gear paddles/radio controls don’t work.
Airbag message and light on!

Wipers, cruise,indicators all do work

When check live:-
Steering Angle Sensor, straight ahead reads 0 then full left -460(ish) full right +460(ish)
Power supply to column shows as 14v
When pressing any steering wheel button it shows as NOT OPERATED.

All airbags are reading around 2.5ohms
Except drivers airbag reading “Large Ohms” to squib 1 + 2

Anyone any ideas? All I did was unbolt column, unplug yellow plug in column. Change ESL motor then re assemble. Had running all fine but then As say I did bang the bottom steering UJ about which is when the lights came on.

At a loss now

Cheers Tel
