hi
more bovver with my merc. Help I can't collapse the back seat now! My faithful old 124 never did this to me. Can't even see how it works because it is well hidden. Mercedes probably think it will never fail so have not made it easy to get at. Anybody else had this problem and what did they do?

thanks malcolm
I will have to live with this until someone is brave enough to remove the back seat and rectify the problem and report back.

w210 rear seat

Hi guys
still unable to lower the backrests. I have a drawing and parts list but have not worked out how to dismantle the backrest.
Has anyone managed this yet? The offside lever fails to activate the locking mechanism at the base of the backrest and I have not worked out how to access this. I have a stanley knife, saw and 4lb hammer in my toolkit but have resisted using them so far! It is impossible to lower either backrest when the offside section fails due to the design. Any help please before I lose my temper and attack the beast!

w210 rear seat

Hi guys
Problem solved at last-as follows:-
1) Removed cover to rear storage box by removing 6no hinge screws.
2) Removed 2no screws securing wooden platform (behind hinges)
3) Removed 2no bolts that secure backrests to body.
4) Pulled out defective backrest.
5) Removed plastic cover on mechanism (snapped off 2no securing pins so used a screw to re-assemble).
6) Discovered that the control cable had unscrewed from the mechanism so re-connected this and locked the nut tight. This connection is similar to that used on bicycle gear cables (hub type).
7) Re-assembled and hey presto all OK.
Hope this is of use to others with a similar defect.
NB. The mechanism is very different to that on the 124 as all the working parts on the 210 are hidden inside the seat back and are not accessible with the seat back in position.
