Hi Guys,

First post so be gentle :).

Vehicle is a W210 E280 late 97 reg.

Heres a little helper if like me you broke off the stub for the headlight vacuum level system.

Mine broke whilst getting the light cluster out, the fittings I'm sure are quite cheap from MB but I found a home fix thats cheaper.

You'll need:

1: A sharp knife
2: A small pair of pilers or mini drill
3: A 2.5mm drill
4: A cotton bub, the plastic tube sort, not the disposable rolled paper sort.

Total time 30mins.

Extract the fitting from the headlight cluster and trim off the remains of the stub so that it is flush and smooth.

Drill the fitting where the stub was with a 2,5mm drill, the plastic is quite soft so holding the drill with a pair of pilers is plenty sufficient.

Insert Cotton bud shaft after first cutting off one end, be carefull when inserting the new tube, if you push it too far it will go right into the body and block the hole to the headlight servo.

Trim cotton bud tube to a rough length, 10-15mm should suffice.

Now, out to the vehicle.

Trim off the stub that is still stuck in the nylon hose.

Drill the remains of the stub with a 2.5mm drill, again it's the same plastic so holding the drill bit with pliers is sufficient, drill approximately 10-15mm.

Fit your newly repaired fitting and push home, it is important to check that the new tube has not been pushed too deep inside the fitting, look down inside and if you see any white tubing, if so, then simply extract and trim the tube to fit.

Once happy, dismantle and apply a thin smear of super glue to both ends of the new tube and insert fully, though it is quite a tight fit anyway so may not need any adhesive at all.

Et Viola, working headlight leveler again.

Hope this is of help to some, apologies if it is already common knowledge.

Pictures should explain a little better.

Best

Michael
