Hi there,
I have a 2003 W211.
The cigarette lighter has recently stopped working.
I suspect it's a fuse.
I've checked the fuses in the boot, and they're all fine.
User's manual says there's another fuse panel at the left end of the dashboard.
Firstly, I'm wondering if that should be the right, i.e. driver's end, since the manual is generally laid out for a left-hand drive car.
Secondly, I tried to remove the panels on both the left and right ends, but they didn't seem to give much, and I didn't want to force it and risk damage.
I did read in another thread that the cigarette lighter fuse for a W203 is in the engine bay—not sure if that's applicable to a W211.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards,
Ken.

Fuse 54B under the bonnet in box on right I think.

Yes, right again, Malcolm. Well done, and thank you very much.

Replaced the blown fuse with one from the pack of spares in the tool-kit in the boot, and it's working again now.

The only small problem I see is that the light that encircles the cigarette lighter seems to have a loose connection; it flickers when I insert or remove the lighter. I'll see how it goes.

For those who are as unfamiliar with the fuse box in the engine bay as I was, it's on the very right hand side of the engine bay (on your left as you stand at the grille to release the bonnet locking mechanism), just in front of the windscreen.
There are two plastic lugs sticking up from the top of the box, one on either side. Slide them backwards to unlock, and remove the lid. There are small icons of locked and unlocked padlocks on the lid to indicate the locked/unlocked positions of the lugs.
Fuses are within.

Hi Malcolm,
I replaced the fuse, as you instructed, and the cigarette lighter worked again, but only for about a fortnight before blowing again.
I looked in the fusebox now, and I had the fuse in 54A, not B. Is this significant? If A is incorrect, should the lighter have worked at all?
And, while not all that important, do you know what the difference between positions A and B are?
Many thanks,
Ken.

You could have a faulty plug.

One fuse position is lighter live all the time., the other is switched via the key.

As in the device I'm plugging into the lighter? In my case, a phone charger.
Or do you mean the receptacle itself fitted in the ashtray compartment?
I suspect you mean the former.

One fuse position is lighter live all the time., the other is switched via the key.
That's an interesting one and good to know. Thanks for the tip.

I don't suppose you know what fuse 53 protects? It's also got A & B positions, so presuming the same thing: live always vs. switched via key.

Thanks again, Malcolm.
