You are the only one so far,, the rod must have been sticking in the rubber grommet

Could I also have this info please. I'll get my hubby to look at it, But this Bouncing door lock is doing my head in :(
I feel so stupid when locking a Mercedes and having to stand there for at least 10 minutes pressing the damn door lock button :(

Thank you

2004 E320 door lock problem

Hi Malcolm,
I have the 'bouncing door lock button' problem on driver's door of my 2004 E320. Please send me the instruction how to replace the door lock actuator or how to repair the door lock motor. Can I repair/replace the spring in the motor? Do you have pics of the spring or inside motor of door lock. Thanks

Door locks machine gunning

Hi Malcom
Any chance you might be able to send me your instructions please? (colin1960j@TempEmail.net) My W211 2004 passenger started machine gunning, then a week later the drivers door started. Thought I'd have a go at this myself as my local specialist quoted £200 per door.

I understand that there's a spring that needs replacing on the actuator, or a rubber bellows?

I've also seen a link to a replacement spring set on Ebay for about 30 quid for two doors. Any comments as to whether this is worthwhile?

Hi one and all,

Just a quick note regarding the replacement springs available on ebay.

I bought a set from seller mercedes-24 recently, and fitted 1x on a W203 yesterday.

The springs appear to be of good quality (as far as I can see!), and the info CD-rom along with the pliers make this an easy DIY job for anyone that can actually remove the latch mechanism!

So my advice to anyone considering using these replacement springs, go for it, and save yourself upwards of £60.

Also note that the 'kit' comes with info on removing door panel etc, and is suitable for W203 or W211 cars, but you do need to specify which side the parts are for...

Kits here... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43ac299ae1

Door lock removal

Many thanks Alex
A very timely post. I'm in the process of changing the spring on both door locks on my 2004 W211.

One urgent question: what size torque screw holds the outer door handle? I can't get my screwdriver with bits into the hole so I'm going out to buy one. Just don't know what size it needs.

I'm taking photos as I go along so will try and post these when I'm done.

Cheers
Colin

T20 for the door handle Colin, at least on a w203, but I believe the W211 is the same.

Alex is quite correct T20 on W211, it needs to be quite slim and minimum 11.5cm long ideally 12cm. I had exactly the same problem.

Changing door locks

Thanks guys
Luckily the nice fella at Halfords let me take a screwdriver out to try it and, quite right, it was T20. All the other Torq screws came out with my basic screwdriver with Torq bits. Well, I'm part way through, having removed the panelling from the passenger door side, door handle and drilled out the window guide and got out the lock (bit of a fiddle that last bit). Just need to open up the lock and change the spring today and hopefully it'll all go back together.

I have yet to do the driver's side door, which also needs doing.

One question which isn't covered in the various guides I've been reading is how much of the outside door handle needs removing? On the passenger side I removed the handle 'button' (though it doesn't push in of course), but I left the pull handle part in place. But I'm not sure if I needed to remove it at all. The guides say to remove the lock barrel. Is this sufficient? And any tips as to how to get it out?
