hi.
swapped in a new front SAM today. but there seems to be a couple of gremlins
1) analogue clock in the dash automatically turned to indicate some odd time:6 hrs ahead
2) right front parking light does not work, and comes up as an error code
3) red battery warning light. even though voltmeter indicates 13.8V
4) parking brake light in the dash

does this mean that the SAM needs coding? as i read prior to swapping the SAM that it did not require coding.

can i still drive it safely until i get it to a STAR machine if coding is needed.
will my old SAM have lost its coding incase i put it back for a while?
any guide please
cheers Raj

It doesnt need coding as in, chassis number identification SCN coding, but SAM's need equipment variant coding, basically telling it what spec the car has that the SAM needs to control.

did you get this sorted?
I have a e320 w211 with a passenger light that won't work and a 'display fault' on dashboard

Display fault indicates a Sam failure or can issue somewhere.

I have replaced front SAM, same issue happening, air suspension dropping when turned off as well (confirmed no leaks in system), we were thinking possible BCM ?

Best to post a new thread. You will get more views.

You need to do a can test and see what codes you get from the instrument cluster etc.

No such thing as BCM on w211

sorry, i should have the courtesy to conclude a thread i started.
my issue was solved by changing relays in the front SAM. this included
relay S, relay N, relay P, relay K, relay I.
i think by doing this i replaced a faulty relay that was causing the car to stall intermittently.
i initially started by replacing to a new SAM and as Alex kindly relied , it needed programming.
Merc confirmed a part number that was incorrect and could not be 'programmed' in.
the correct SAM for my facelift car was close to £700.
so we refitted the existing one and changed the relays. all fine now.
as Alex has suggested you need to get the codes read on your car to diagnose.
cheers raj
