Spoke to sinspeed yesterday and got the quote from them. They said theres two types of repair price. To recon the pump completely it will be £395 inc but if the pump needs the processing unit also, then the cost would be £595 inc. bear in mind mercedes dealer can get me the pump for £800 so is it worth just paying the extra £200 n getting it new or take the chance with the recon.?

Also i asked if they had any on the shelf which they could sell with a surcharge for sending mine back to thm. The guy said no their like gold dust and havn't been able to get their hands on surplice pumps. So if you are going to use sinspeed for recon pump you will have to get it removed and send it off for a couple of days and have the car off the road for this period.

Not very convenient for me unfortunately as i do alot of miles n rely on my car to get me around:( But that the two options your faced with and they do sound a reputable company and would use no problem.

Does sinspeed have an option of you delivering the car to them, and they do all the work, ie removing, refurbing and refitting the unit to the car. And what is the price of this option (assuming they offer this option)?

I dont think removal and refitting is that simple, bleeding the brakes has to be done on a star machine I thought? The brake fluid is under high pressure I think.

hi guys,

just giving an update on what i've done. I bought a genuine SBC pump from mercedes which cost me just over £900. It comes with a 2 year warranty. I managed to catch one of the techies at my local dealer and he was happy to fit the pump for me for £150 which was £400 cheaper then what the dealer wanted to charge me:-D

He programmed it all in and bled the system through which took him around and hour to do so didn't have the car off the road for long. Was very happy with the work done and is nice to get in the car and not have any service brake messages appearing everytime i start the car:)

hopefully this pump should see me out with this car now fingers crossed!!!

Regards Rob

Bosch have always been greedy, A CPS is just a single coil of wire, and worth no more than £5, They paid £4 each for a batch of EZL units and sell them nearer the £1k

This is one for the reconditioned unit:

http://allegro.pl/mercedes-w211-pompa-sbc-po-regeneracji-z-gwarancja-i3583359539.html

Where he says he has replaced the Commutator, Brushes and a check of the pressure reservoir and hydraulics. 6 month warranty.

The reconditioning job is listed here: http://allegro.pl/pompa-sbc-naprawa-w211-cls-i3610511740.html

I imagine this is of course on ones own unit, so your car would be out of commission for the duration of the repair. No real details are given as to what is being done (or about warranty) but I imagine it will be similar to the other one.

Look if there are people that are interested in doing something with this and are willing to take a modicum of risk, I may be willing to assist with comms and/or postage. In addition, I can ask my local mechanic if he knows any reliable guys that do these regenerations, because, well - let's be frank - anyone can claim anything on a auction website, and it's better to be sure with expensive stuff like this.

Mind you, in general I am finding that stuff here appears to be considerably cheaper than in the UK. Another example - I needed a high pressure fuel pump for my W210 320 CDI - I got it for 60 or 80 (cant exactly remember) quid, and it runs like new. Admittedly, my mechanic was surprised it was in such good working order, and even here a recon is 200 pounds.

So good deals can be had and, frankly, with such a large Polish community in the UK, I am surprised that nobody has "figured this out" and is doing a nice import export biz with it. I can't coz I have almost no time for anything but it is potentially a very lucrative business.

Hi guys, just got the "Service Brake visit workshop" on the dash of my 05 w211 which has just turned 100k. It's been well serviced by indi by no merc stamps in the book, I know the front pads are getting low and I'm hoping against hope that the pad wear indicator has hit the brake disc, if it has do you get the same message or does it say front pads goosed. If it's the SBC up what's the chances of MB changing it under warranty.

Replies welcome, cheers.

Getting it FOC with no Full Dealership Service History is a difficult thing. Hopefully you are 'lucky' and it's really just the brake pads.

Low pads have a different message, I'm afraid.

It will almost certainly be the SBC. The chances of MB chaning it under warranty are now virtually zero.

As above, the car needs to go on STAR to confirm that the pump is at fault, if the pump no help from mercedes on this at all.

I have been told that a STAR C4 (and laptop with software) can be used to reset the SBC useage counter to zero, thus giving the SBC pump a new lease of life.

It has to be done using XENTRY in developer mode apparently.

Not sure what this means. Can anybody shed any light?

Thanks. :)
