As I have said, I am pursuing this with Bosch via ECP and will keep updated here.

If I have to contact MPD, who can apparently also supply this, I will - are you listening Euro Car Parts?..

I've been trying to get bosch to just tell me if its available for my car in the uk via the service centre online query.

I just keep getting told to speak to a bosch service centre.

when I said they have failed to rerurn my calls and emails I was basically just told to call another one.

I know I'm just dealing with an intern or something because of the format of the email address. Even when I said who else can I contact I got the same response.

Its odd the Alex has been referred to EPC when the service centers sell everything else, and they could have kept it all in house as well.

Still waiting getting a brick wall from ECP, apparently the number given to me by Bosch is 'no longer available' - a likely story.
I should add the the individuals at my local branch are doing their best, but getting palmed off by ether their head office, or their importers, or Bosch UK/Germany.

None of this surprises me, the only thing that will amaze me is if I can buy the correct part via Bosch at a significant discount from MB price, sometime this year or next.

I will put up the original MB and Bosch numbers, and the new Bosch number I was given, when I get back to the coal face.

Just got a call back from my man at local ECP, they can supply me the correct part, in 1 to 2 days.
I am told there is no exchange available, no surcharge on the part, and the cost to me would be almost twice the MB price (which IS for an exchange unit).
So no good at all, and both myself and John at ECP are a good 20 mins out of pocket, at least.

Am hoping Malc comes up trumps!

i'm amazed at that, although shouldn't be surprised. finger crossed Malcolm has some better results.

Got the reply and not good.:(

Good afternoon Sir

Thank you for your enquiry.

The numbers you are providing do not agree with our findings?

The A 005 431 05 12 number cross refers to Bosch 0 265 250 065 for a new product.

As an exchange number from Bosch it is 0 986 483 002

You need to be sure you use the correct part.

Unfortunately the price is not very helpful at an eye watering £860.00 plus VAT. The displaced unit carries a additional £100 surcharge until returned.

Stock is currently available in the UK.

Best regards

Ray Mather

Thank you Malcolm.

Ian's concerns about getting the correct part cross reference are well placed! We have different part numbers now, we could assume the latter from Malc are correct, but assumptions are the mother of all etc etc.

And yes, the price is no cheaper than MB, so no incentive at all to buy from them.

The whole thing has turned into some kind of hoax, in a way, we were all led to believe in better things.

Bosch are greedy, buying in EZL units for £4 and going at the front door for nearly £1k

Hi Alex,

the price you are quoted from MB, is this trader price? If so, why do they charge £600 odd to fit them as the fitted price is £1500-1600 isnt it?

Also i have heard in many cases, MB have replaced these FOC if the Vehicle is less than 10 years old! Is this still the case? Mine is making noise every few pumps and heard there some newer parts which can be fitted to quieten it down (MB recall or something)

Can anyone help with this please?

We have never had the 10 years in the UK, in the USA its been extended to 12 years. The noise may mean nothing, there was no damper offered on the 219, only for the 211.

All anyone can do is to ask their dealer if there is any chance of a free replacement, at the minimum the car would need to have a full MB serviced book.

I quoted a retail price, plus vat, and I indicated that we get a very modest discount from this retail price.

You would need to ask someone else for an answer to the latter question :D

An interesting development.......or at least new to me.......is that MB are now supplying new replacement sbc pumps with a lifetime warranty.
Anecdotal evidence I know but one Member of The Mercedes-Benz Club has had his sbc pump replaced (new from MB and fitted by his indie) on his 2003 R230 c/w a lifetime warranty.
The indie has told the Member that MB now claim to have overcome the the ''timing out'' of the original pumps and are now sufficiently confident to offer replacement pumps with a lifetime warranty.
If this is the case for all of us then the price paid to MB for the pump may be ''easier to swallow''.
