Very hard for me to follow, the CD must have been open circuit on the optic ring.

What a shame that an optic check was not done, that is so simple to do.

Well i was told by first garage they had tested the optic fibre from the head to the boot and they had a signal but the signal was not going from the boot back to the head so they said the amplifier was at fault.
Took that as the expert opinion had been told they knew their merc electrics guess they dont know CL electrics!!

That was sad, at least you have sound now as toy say but you could have done other things with that money

Sorry to open the thread again, I have a 2011 model with a similar problem. I have linked out the amp and then the tuner with no change.
The fault is no sound and no tuner display or cd display. It just says device unavailable.
Any help would be appreciated

Cheers John

I am pretty sure the fault is the amplifier, does anyone know the contact details in Sofia to send it to for repair please or is there anyone in the UK who is cheap enough?

Cheers John

Hello John, I found by lowering the amp and one finds no optic output in the optic socket, these thing do have a 12v start up as well. I search for ages for parts and gave up and sent it to Sofia.

Mine is all fine, they did a good job, sure £280 all in including postage that was £65, but they do come with a good guarantee.

Thanks Malcolm, but This car has good fibre optic connections. It was plugged into star which diagnosed no communication with the amp. This points to a faulty amp.

Good luck with it, just shocking that Mercedes can take thousands on all this.

An update.
I sent the amp away to Sofia. They could not repair it. They did not charge other than the postage which was 92 eur!

The question I now have is, are all of this type of amp compatible as I have found it impossible to locate a second-hand unit with the same part number in the UK.

Any help would be appreciated.

It says on the label, Harman/Becker.
