give us a hand guys,

lately my 2002 s320 cdi has been reluctant to start after a decent trip.

it wouldn't happen every time, but when stood for half an hour or so after 90ish mile trip, it will take 3 start cycles to catch.

it runs fine once going but is particularly temperamental if parked uphill.

i've just replaced all the fuel pipes from the filter right up to the injectors.and can't get rid of a large air bubble in the pipe with the plastic valve assy at the end.
if the engine is running the bubble is only the last 10mm of the pipe, but when turned off almost the whole pipe right down to the tee piece is filled with air.

any clues on the starting problem and how do i bleed the air out of that pipe?

I would look at injectors as the probable cause. Get them tested at a specialist and also the fault codes read by a star; and the live data analysed. This hould point you in the right direction.

I have never heard of air leaks on the cdi models but thats not to say they do not exist. Does anyone have any info on this?

I dont know if your car has one or not, and i hope im not going to make myself look stupid, but what about fitting a fuel non return valve, just before the fuel filter.

I had almost identical problems with my Sprinter (they share the same engine). It was an injector. Total cost for an indie to diagnose, remove, repair & refit number 3 injector was about £200.

Sorry, misread the post. It's the 220 engine mine has, not the 320. Apologies.
