Hi all,

Got the above issues with the B and would like some pointers to where or how the water or waterever liquid it is is getting there.

From the 2 issues my main concern is the liquid under the battery as I think it is causing me issues with the vehicle. Had to change the battery recently as it really old and was therefore surprised that the replacement had discharged to the point it wouldn’t open the car although somehow I managed to get the car door open! On removing the battery to recharge it I have discovered that there is a liquid under the battery and in a void space beneath the battery tray. I hope you can seen this from the pictures above. I have checked the battery and the casing is fine so I don’t think the battery has leaked or anything like that. In one of the pics you’ll see part of a plastic tube, this is vent tube that was attached to the original battery, has perhaps water got in through that as it has been a bit wet recently after I changed the battery?

With regards to the boot I’ve not noticed this before and we’ve had the vehicle ages although a friend of mine has had the same issue.

Any pointers in where I should be looking and what I should be doing will be gratefully appreciated

Jules

From what I recall the B class and A class both suffer from water ingress around the rear lights.

Thanks for the advice.

I’ll check the lights and the seals just in case there are any problems or issues, the high levels of UV play havoc with plastics and rubber here in Malta!

The front drain holes get blocked and this causes water ingress at the front of the car.

Thanks for the information.

Sorry but are you able to guide me as to where the drains holes might be and where the water might end up collecting.

I suspect that there is a short or draining of the battery due to the water.

Its the ones by the edge of the windscreen on the outside of the car. The water comes into the cabin and collects under the passenger seat and the battery well.

Lift the carpet under the passenger seat. you may need to take the seat out to do this. Ill be t the foam underneath is wet. There are electronic components under there which wont react well to water!

Morning Alfie,

Many thanks for info, will go and check things out.

Was though wondering if the water can get around or underneath the fuse panel located in front of the battery in the drivers foot well?

A quick update.

So we’ve had a bit of rain in Malta over the last few days and I’ve found even more water in the battery well!

Was wondering how to clear the drainways under the plastic cover at the bottom of the windscreen as the drain holes in the plastic cover were clear enough for any water running down the screen to drain through it.

Thanks

I've got my W246 in for repair.
Lost most electrics and ignition wouldn't turn off,.Guy in garage straight away said probably water ingression, most likely in the rear.Hopefully it's a straight forward find and fix for him

Need to make sure it is rain water .Because rain water and condensation both looks the same. Find a nice piece of carpet under lay , then cut it to size then fit the battery on top of that .But do check it from time to time .
