Just enjoying a chilled glass of white in the garden this afternoon, and bang, seems like a local yob in a Transit hit my right wheel which smacked the left front into the kerb and destroyed the wheel. I suspect it may be a fair bit more serious than just the wheel, but the police know who owns the van so will be on the phone to the insurance first thing in the morning. Inconvenient as was supposed to be going to Scotland in it on Friday, but that's life I guess

Make sure you get the car on a Hunter rig. No telling what that's done to the alignment.

I really detest white van drivers!!!

Well, in general. Hate is too strong a word for it, I just find that many people just get in my way.

Hmm. Well something's definitely broken underneath. I went to move it this morning and the wheel that was hit will not move. Looks like I will be taking my VW camper to Scotland instead...

At the moment it looks like it will need 2 new wheels, the track rod has snapped and the OS suspension unit has been shifted forward. It's going to a specialist Mercedes repairer so hopefully should be fine. The bizarre thing is that it didn't touch the bodywork

Well, the car is with the approved repairer, Veetech in Aldershot, and its worse than I thought. It needs 2 front wheels, 2 x front air suspension units, all upper and lower arms, steering rack, plus putting on a jig. £8600 in total. The other driver called at my door today and admitted liability 2 days after the event, so it's hopefully just a formality now.

Aye, this is why even relatively new cars get written off these days.

insurance repairs are expensive now. ....

don't you think that some insurance linked repairers take the p*** though? When taking a car in for a minor body work repair how many times have you been asked if it's going through insurance? Surely it costs the same whether an insurer is paying or whether you're paying for it out of your own pocket.

Insurance companies don't care about the costs. It gets added to our policies next year if they overspend their budget!
