What controls the turbo actuator?

Noticed my actuator does not move - ever.

The turbo on the OM613 is pretty solid and has no play and seems to spin ok.

I have tested the vacuum pip to the actuator and even changed the actuator.

The vacuum transducer seems ok, swapped it with one I had lying around. Same with the MAF.

What's left? Stumped

You will never get it to move when stationary. You need high loads to generate load to get boost up to the point the wastgate opens and you will never manage that in neutral.

I have been through some tests on STAR and I'm sure one was for the actuator - can't remember the exact name of the test but involved boost pressure and when actuating it (open/close) the pressure did not move.

I have had charge pressure fault in the past and car is gutless on most journeys.

Today there was an EGR (P1403-032 I think) which is weird. EGR should be clean and there is no smoke.

Maybe the videos I have seen are with a car jacked up, but you can't blip the throttle in drive like that although seconf video could be wheels off the ground

Example with OM612

no idea on that model
a w211 280 cdi will move around a lot as you blip the throttle in P when stationary at any engine temp

Had a look this afternoon, mine moves if I blip the throttle whilst parked up, same as videos above.

maybe thats the difference with the electronic actuator, you blip, electronics think yr tryin to go.so you get movement

@Taffy7hfa thanks

Would the MAP sensor which is on the pipe between the intercooler and EGR/intake have anything to do with this or just the MAF sensor? Any other sensors monitor boost?

Well without wishing to sound like I really know what I'm talking about, what I do know is... everything affects everything, plug it in and see what the ecu says. there's probably 50 or more reasons why a turbo wastegate lever isn't moving.

That's a VNT turbo so different to a standard wastegate turbo. On a VNT the actuator can be electronically operated (as I believe these may be) or by manifold pressure. On any turbo where manifold pressure drives the actuator it will not move unless the manifold pressure rises high enough which it can't do unless the engine is under load.

I'm not sure on this engine but I seem to recall actuator failure can result as a failure of the internal actuator drive gears.

In terms of control sensing there is usually a MAP sensor which detects manifold absolute pressure. This is used in conjunction with the MAF to determine fuelling and boost control.

It's probably in limp mode. First thing the old diesel ecus do when in limp is pull all the boost.

The egr code is your most likely candidate for this.

Have you ruled out the flap motor causing limp, Bob?
You had flap concerns recently. A 4700 ohms fix sorts it...

OM613's VNT mech is pretty reliable.

You can test the waste gate with a mitty vac. Or if it is electronic then you can actuate it on STAR. Depends if you have CDI1/2 or CDI3.

CDI 2 - OM613

I have pulled a vacuum on the actuator and it moves the actuator bar and holds. If I go above a certain pressure, it then releases the pressure.
