Drove to Normandy over the weekend, legs of 42.2 & 39.3mpg. Thought of Russ and his daily trip computer snapshots and then completely forgot to do any myself.
A little 5 1/2 hour side trip you could have dropped in for a coffee (Russ style).

Fitted tow bar finally. Had to clean up the receiver to remove some corrosion before the swan neck would lock in place.

Double edged sword... Now we can not only clear the barns of some junk (using the neighbours trailer - the original intended use of the tow bar) but MrsLK has started muttering about caravans (over my dead body!).

I've said she can have a caravan after I get my 26' trailer sailer (which we can't afford).

As can be seen, it's very very dry here.
Forecast today is 31°C.

I performed a post mortem on my S211 rear air springs to see if I could find where they were leaking.

20220829_100158.jpg
Heavily corroded on the base.

20220829_100851.jpg
Signs of splitting/perishing.

20220829_100321.jpg
Similar at the other end of the bellows.

20220829_102104.jpg
Nothing much to see inside with the bottom cut off.

20220829_100240.jpg
These were once self tapping Torx screws. I drilled the heads off.

20220829_102148.jpg
The solenoid valve and air inlet/outlet.

20220829_102431.jpg
Two O rings, the dumpy one seems to have been sitting askew, possibly since manufacture. The other air spring seals were OK and the same size as these ones.

20220829_102518.jpg

Nothing definitive to say what was leaking, most likely the bellows around the crimping due to corrosion or the valves are letting by.

(Not going anywhere of course just driving around the country lanes…)

I recall for many years you decried diseasel engined cars and you finally saw the light. Only a matter of time til you realise the benefits of towing a wobble box  No point getting older if you don't get wiser :)

Well not today... a couple of days ago... but Mrs D's 2007 CLK passed its MOT. Advisory on low front pads but otherwise OK. Just ordered pads and oil/filter to do a yearly service. Total maintenance cost over the year for those items plus a coolant sensor last Sept is £108. Pretty good for a 15yr old motor.

Given its otherwise low cost to run I'm trying to convince her to have the AMG alloys refurbed. Getting resistance as "I could scrape them again the following week".

Well, not quite today, but over the last 3 weeks. Fault started when dashboard warning, "Check coolant level"!! Did so to find the coolant reservoir was full of oil !!!!!!. Did a bit of research and reading and turns out Oil Cooler were prone to giving out at around 100k miles. Other info I read was that the Fuel Filter housing was also prone to causing problems around the same mileage. Off to a local well respected garage where they had the car for about 4 days. New Oil Cooler, Fuel Filter Housing and Thermostat, plus numerous flushes through of the coolant system. All appears to be running well now. Any other surprises that I can expect from this model?

Start with THIS and work up.
Damn I've had a sudden attack of selective blindness. Probably brought on by memories of visiting a friend staying at a Caravan Club site in the Peaks that reminded me of movies of a POW camp.
