Yet another software reset dance for the gearbox.

Sometimes I wish I was back driving a manual.

Saw a Shooting Brake today and felt another twinge of regret.
The SL has gone to the new owner today too so yet another twinge! :(
(Got the renewal through today for it, up £100 through Darwin.)
I'm quite cushioned not having a car at the moment as I have the use of my friends VW Up but I really do think I won't be buying another car now...

Decided to work on the front ashtray of the W220 today as not been getting the lighter socket to kick out 12V.

the tray is fed by one loom.

My Icarsoft also shown an error of illumination to front footwells/ashtray - however the led to the ashtray was working as were footwell leds

So popped out the ashtray - 2 screws. Removed entire assembly and dismantled.
There is a small 1.2w halogen bulb in there - no continuity - trip to autofactors - new bulb 50p - replaced. That lit up nicely. I would never have known.

Yet still no 12 v on the lighter socket - odd I thought as its on the same loom and surely not the fuse.

Anyhow checked the fuse chart. Fuse 86 at the box, side of dashboard is for front lighter. Fuse 86 no continuity. Sausage fingers pulled the fuse and indeed goosed. Fuse replaced and voila.

Moral of the story - dont expect all wires on a certain loom to be protected by a perceived circuit. Parts of the loom can run out to separate circuits. Oh and Icarsoft i do love you.

So a nice couple of hours spent and again so amazed at how well the W220 is put together.

Had the ATF and gearbox sump pan replaced on the SLK at my local Mercedes Independent Specialists - Prestige Motor Engineers in Ossett - Highly recommended - great bunch of lads and less than half the price Mercedes quoted me...

Poor quality pictures (from Main dealer video - when they assessed and replaced my rear subframe) but you can see it needed doing.

Glad you got that sorted. looked close to oil finding a weak spot and beyond a strip back and paint. Stange there is no tray protecting that.

My indie said they're getting lots in for ATF change and end up requiring a new gearbox sump pan

Cleaning the inside, after a week away a couple of weeks ago with everyone on board the rear of the car was disgusting, took an hour of hovering to get it back to standard, then cracked open the GT15 and the nail brush, my god were they in need of a clean, but all done and then covered in GT11, should smell lovely in there tomorrow after it’s soaked in.
The outside is still disgusting and not grey than blue, but that’ll have to wait until tomorrow now

Fitted a Disklok steering security device.

My neighbour popped round this morning to tell me his security cameras had picked up activity on my drive namely two thieves standing next to my E53 at 3.50am this morning. Luckily my security floodlights came on and they panicked and left. I’ve informed the police via their website just in case they come back and have another try (for insurance reasons more than anything). No damage was done fortunately but it does make you feel that bringing back the stocks is a good idea.

Dropped a friend at Gatport Airwick, averaged 47mpg cruising along at truck speeds. I now have a headache from the constant beating of the awful joints in the M25 concrete. :(

Don't forget the double lock function on key fob which should disable the keyless entry and make sure keys are kept as far away from car & front door as possible.

CCTV might be useful covering car, helps you sleep!

Use a Faraday Pouch or one of those Scottish shortbread tins.

Thanks, I’ll make sure I do!

Any suggestions for CCTV?
