Thank you. I saw this where you set it via your cruise control to turn it on and off and then do not need to use the brake to set it.
Yes would have helped if I had added this.

Yes. It relies on distronic sending objects in front and applying the brakes to bring the car to a stop.
Malcolm's 216 had it but the 230 has neither stop or hold.
It's not reliant on distronic, I have hold and stop on my R230, I don't have distronic. I use hold a lot but only ever used stop once and didn't like it.

I’ve had “Hold” on both my C207 and current car. I thought it was standard now on Mercs?

I've got the one which creeps forward when you take your foot off the brake pedal. Used it about twice in 9 years.

I have HOLD too on my ML .... but I think we're considering the fly-by-wire SBC braking system

Hi
Due to the age of the SBC equipped models now both the SBC Hold and Stop function almost certainly could be coded on/off with Offline DAS Developer mode rather than having specific parameters imposed on it with online update that is carried out on newer models.
Though you would need to have a good understanding of the German language, grammer, syntax and engineering language, as all the menus in developer mode are by default in german.

AFAIK stop is not possible code 'back' (even developer) if newer softaware is installed in SBC . Hold should be standard, missing hold points to fault somewhere, usually in gear selector module.

Hold is disabled in US models.

Hold is available in all later 'normal' brake systems.

I am using hold in all my MBs, I used W211 stop few times, but it didn't felt 'good'. Distronic is basically doing same nowadays.

I use HOLD in my ML but only cos it's there ... I don't really see the point of it. In other cars I'd have put it in PARK if I thought I'd be waiting for any length of time. I hold the car for 'Hill starts' with my left foot which can confuse 'hill assist' in the Smarts

2009 211 (post SBC) has 'Hold', I soon got used to it would miss it.
The 'Stop' sounds less desirable.
The Hold can work good in stop / start traffic by using just the brake pedal and creep. Press brake for 'Hold', press it again and it releases so you can creep, press it again for 'Hold'. Not so good on a downward incline if steep, but you can control as you're already on the brake.

You would have thought our (or their) legislators by now would cause brake lights to extinguish on a stationary vehicle.
We only want to see a car braking not broken.

Sorry couldn't resist.

Not going to happen due to litigation... getting rear ended at the end of a queue because the car behind dint see brake lights...
Never been an issue in North America where almost everything is automatic so brake lights on at every junction is the norm.

Ah but, but,
With zee handbrake applied the brake lights eez off.
Maybe that's why no one uses thems any more.

That reminds me of how clever Audi are. They made their indicators groovy so their drivers would start using those again.
