Exhaust suddenly starts blowing and i found this hole ,something was here a blanking plug perhaps ? It doesnt look threaded but hard to see inside
was it a facility for a sensor on american / export models and was blanked off for uk ?
engine is running fine no faults on the dash computer no loose wires or a sensor hanging loose
best way to restore it / blank it
mercedes blanking plug ???
not sure if welder can get in there
bolt and washer glued in with gun gum
Any further suggestions welcome

From memory M18x1.5.

Quick solution is get a bolt. Cut a slot in the thread (lengthwise) and tighten up. If it still leaks find someone friendly with a welder. Two minutes later it'll never trouble you again.

Smart + others :)
Looks like the bolt hole for the heat shield that’s missing. I’d be looking at the joint being the 44AB1B2F-B984-410A-96C1-412A7B4D6BFD.png problem.

I use 1mm cutting disc to cut 2 slots along bolt length at 180 degrees if fitting not very hard and one takes time I find this usually does job esp if bolt decent quality

Yep pretty much my method too though usually I use a Dremel so finer slot. I guess I'm more used to smaller bolts than you.
