My 2011 E350cdi came with a printout indicating a MB service history up to 72,000 in 2015. Since then only 10,000miles apparently but non MB servicing.
Am I safe to assume MB did the gearbox at the appropriate time (which is when, btw?) Is there a way of checking? Or does it need doing urgently?
I read somewhere that every 40,000 is a good idea.

Thanks. So it is about due then!
Subject to the correct grade ATF and temperature considerations when checking levels, is this something any competent mechanic can do? No specialist skills or tools?

My R Class had apparenty been dealer serviced before I got it. When I asked at the MB dealer if it had been done the reply was ... it should've been
The local indie I asked to change it said it didn't look like it'd ever been done & that was at about 50k miles.

MB says every 70k or 5 years (after the first at 42k) but I recommend every 40k/5 years.

If you are planning to keep the car any length of time I would do it as a matter of course anyway - it's something I do whenever I buy a car, (if an Auto) and an Oil and Filters change. Even if it is alleged to have been done recently..... ;)

I work on the principle that if I do it I know wten it was last done. Takes all the guesswork out.

Is that box dependent? I know MB were confused when I had them change the ATF in the 5G box in my W210 at the time.

My W211 has a single change at 37k with Mercedes as per the recommendation. That had the 7G box.

What is the 7G+ and 9G recommendations from Mercedes?

My latest 7G was done at 40k by Mercedes and I’ll get it done at 80K

Yes it is, that's only for the 7g plus.

The 7g non plus was once at 42k and that's it.

7G+?!?
Can it be wrong to change any fluids on a regular basis, whether MB say it’s needed or not?

All vehicles with stop start have the 7G +, they take a different fluid spec. Some cars without stop/start have the 7g+ too, but its the easiest way to identify.

So what are the recommendations for the 9G box? Just so I know for the future!

For 9G, every 31,000 miles or 3 years.
