I have a problem in that my xenon self levelling unit is stuck in the "loaded" position meaning I can not see very far ahead, esp. on dip.

Not been used much in the evenings/darkness of late.

Last night it cured itself after 30 motorway miles but went back to loaded level before I reached home.

Anything I can do or is this an expensive fix?

Check the leveling rod is still attached to the rear anti roll bar/sensor.

2005 CL500.
The rod is about £12. Though I fixed mine by drilling out the connector and fitting a bolt. I had to do this for the MOT and whilst the part was on order. Over a year later the temp. fix is still working.

As above it could be the front or rear link fallen off

Just to say it is the rod which I'm told is broken because the ball joint has seized.

An easy fix, will cost me £40 fitted at Lime Tree.:D

Had a new rod fitted and lights are back to normal except dip is a bit high.
Also, previously when I turned the headlights on they rose and fell for a couple of seconds until they established the "correct" level. The don't do this now.
Any comments?

They probably need setting on STAR,,,my lights stopped rising years ago and I have just left them, you can adjust them with the 2 screws if you wish

As Malcolm says they will probably need resetting using STAR. Had to have it done on my SL after front rod altered. Very simple process - park car on level surface, connect STAR and instruct lights to learn position - takes 5 minutes.
