I was having some bulbs changed on my W211 and asked the guy about my xenon bulbs. He reckoned they last for the life of the car. Was he right?

Hi,
They do last a long time, though the life of the car I think not though historically it seems the control unit is just as likely to fail as the lamp is, in my opinion the control unit is more likely to fail, if I ever had a control unit go I think I would replace both lamps as well, as I think as the lamps age they may put the control units under additional load. Though the lamps are £120 a pop from MB I found a supplier who can supply them in different temp ranges for £20 a pair! what a mark up, another example of MB's inflated prices on certain items.

The lamps may keep going but their output detriorates over time.
