Hello people..
First post here so many thanks before hand for those who can help and reply.

Not much info on the web that i can find about when the aluminium engines were first introduced to the mercedes vans/trucks under categories of the 410 / 508 / 609 / 709 models.

Any one know any info about this???

Heard that the aluminium engines are not as good as the cast iron or steel engines??

What are your thoughts about the aluminium engines??

im looking at a mercedes 410 year 1996 with 120000 miles on clock.
You think its aluminium or steel??

kind regards
mike

Hello Mike,

Is the van you are looking at the one before the sprinter ?, if so it will be fitted with a cast iron block with an aluminium cylinder head. This engine is pretty reliable, but can suffer from head gasket problems. Simple injection system to repair and no electronics or ecu,s to worry about. If you could find out what engine is fitted, the engine number will start with OM 6--. This will tell us the engine make up.

Adrian.
