    New front tyres needed

In general where budget tyres fall down is wet grip, and in my book that's the grip which is most important. You mention two major brands as a possible front fitment and there is the possibility you will end up with weaker wet grip on the rear than the front keeping those Sumitomos. This may be...

    New front tyres needed

    >>>I suppose ideally you should match with the rear’s That was the very question I was going to ask, what's on the rear? We never run without all four tyres the same make/model for the most predictable handling, in the wet particularly.

How good is the CLK w209?

My wife's 2007 W209 is a 2.1 diesel hardtop and on 145k in its sixth year with us, the longest we've ever owned a car of the 70+ between us in our lifetime. The diesel engine had a new water pump, tensioner, belt and alternator clutch when we first bought it and since then has only needed a...

    Fake part?

    >>> I have a rule that the harder something is to do the more likely I'd use genuine parts. 100% my view which has been developed over decades... and in particular regarding taking a chance on a used part.

Well I'm pleased to report Euro Car Care of Farcet (Nr Peterborough) came through in every respect. It suited us they don't waste money on plate glass, chrome/leather chairs, posh coffee and cinnamon buns but instead concentrated on being a friendly bunch, giving an initial realistic guide on...

Mercedes S350 - 2012 Front Brake Pin Removal Issue

Just suffered stuck pins on the CLK when pad changing a couple of days ago. Needed a lump hammer on a drift pin (just a fraction under the pin diameter and similar style/quality to the ones linked above) and as the reduced part of the drift pin was about 12cm long it bent before the caliper pin...

    Oddities of car insurance

    >>>Been with Churchill about three years and competitive so far even on renewal Well that's what I said 5mths ago but... Renewal on the unmerc due now. Slight fly in the ointment we had an attempted scam** against us 3mths ago from when my wife was using the car and Churchill put it down as a...

Specialist in Peterborough - Huntingdon area.

Thanks. I was leaning their way but that's enough confirmation they are probably the right folks given we really don't want to travel far, they are only 5mins from somewhere we often shop. I'll get it booked in and report back.

I'll just give this one bump and if no more thoughts I'll have to phone the local possibles and see how they do on the attitude test. Having DIY'd pretty well everything (bar aircon and recalls) for decades I find it a bit stressful engaging with unknown trade folks.... as I'm sure they do...

Thanks. Ideally we really want to keep things as local as possible. There is a Mercedes specialist called Euro Car Care in Farcet near Peterborough who have a good name with the general Mercedes owning public even not if a forum mention. Also one I'd not noticed until yesterday called Star Auto...

Specialist in Peterborough - Huntingdon area.

Has anyone personal experience of a specialist in the area around Peterborough and Huntingdon? Nothing too onerous (hopefully) on our 2007 CLK, just a routine 5-spd auto fluid change and to look at the aircon which is probably suffering a failed pressure sensor from the symptoms.

W221 Genuines MB Discs & Pads looking dangerous within less than 3,000 miles - what is the potential issue?

    >>>If I was asked what I thought without any background information I would say the they hadn't fitted new discs. Yep that's actually a really good call.

W221 Genuines MB Discs & Pads looking dangerous within less than 3,000 miles - what is the potential issue?

I'm of the opinion DSK's wear isn't what I'd expect from the brand, age and mileage of these discs. I've photographed the two cars that happen to be on the drive currently. The first image is the front disc (Pagid discs and pads) on a Ford, by chance also fitted 6 mths ago and it's covered 2.5k...

Refusal of a refund for £3,100

    >>>I don't owe the seller a thing and it might stop him from doing this to others who are not quite so resilient. You obviously haven't researched the guy. This will be of little worry to him. Not saying it's right but he's just one of those guys who would brush anything off and keep on doing...

Refusal of a refund for £3,100

    >>>Under what grounds would the seller appeal if he loses?? Usually SCC findings are final, unless things have changed. Yes that was what I meant a couple of posts back. An appeal can only be made on the grounds of law/procedure not as a challenge to the decision. I don't think this is going to...

Refusal of a refund for £3,100

Again from my experience... The court will not allow you to add in future travel costs that may or may not happen, costs will only be considered that have a basis in law. The whole point of what we call the small claims process is that it is for simple cases where the court makes a decision on...

Refusal of a refund for £3,100

    >>> I perceive the CC to concern itself with out of pocket losses. Yes my experience is they are more likely to find in your favour if it is a simple claim for the actual/substantial loss and not complicated by "distress" claims and that type of thing. After all as the buyer I'd shoulder a fair...

    Minimum tyre thread depth

Looked at this earlier with no time to post my own feeling was I believe I can feel a real drop off in wet grip from 3mm and under so for decades have used 3mm as the change point. I thought others may say that was a waste of tyre life so good to see it's a popular figure.
