My wife too has had 3 SLKs 320, 350 and a 250cdi. The 250cdi is pack full of nothing electronic, no heated seat, no leather, no command, however it came with a glass roof and a full hood lining o_O
With the cloth seats, we have really not missed the heated seats. We discovered that it did come with a provision to insert a sim car, which we purchased so now have sat nav.
If she got 10,000 grand for her car she would be really chuffed, but in reality it's worth £7000 so she's decided to keep it, as to replace it with another the dealers are asking 12000 +
I will say though, all of the SLKs we've had have been exception cars. :)

The search for an SLK still on. I know I need to look for timing chain issues and often, but not always, these occur around 80k miles on the M271 engines. I've also seen that some red cars can suffer from paint blisters! Is it safe to assume if a 2010/11 car shows no signs of blisters it is unlikely to get problems now? I understand MB 'quietly' did a complete repaint on a good number of cars. I guess if a car has been repainted the finish might be inferior to factory?
I'm looking at dealer cars at the moment but might look at private sellers too as some nice cars there at decent prices. But obviously no warranty! Pays yer money....etc!
Cheers

The fire Opal red issue is only fixed with a dealer respray, they’re not covering them like they used to as many are sold on with the issue and so they won’t repair for the new owner foc.
Ones that have been repaired appear to be lasting.

So any Fire Opal red cars currently without the paint issue have possibly been resprayed when new or would never have developed the problem anyway and never will now?

Probably resprayed with first (or second) owner in late 20’teens

I must say, I love my 172. It has all the toys but it's so good in the corners and very composed and comfortable.

Also, today I did 180 miles of mixed driving and I can't belive it but the obc says 39.4mpg door to door

So either way I shouldn't come across the issue,
Thanks
Shouldn't but could. We still occasionally get people finding it.

In terms of engines the V6 isn't so much about the power as about the refinement. The 6 cylinder engine is smooth as silk compared to the 4 cylinder. I've had 7 Mercedes and only one 4 cylinder amongst them and whilst not bad it wasn't a patch on the V6s (4 of) or V8s (remaining 2). Even the V6 diesel I have now is about as refined as the M271 I had.

Yes, you've got me thinking! Earlier posts have recomended the V6 and looking at it again the potential running costs between the M271 and M272 aren't that significant. And I don't have the timing chain issue hanging over me!
Cheers

If done properly. No issues as paint got in everywhere in first place, new respray will be on top of that "prepared"surface. I expect its done properly as benz sure won't want to do it 2x
I will note that I hardly ever see a red car in France with good 8, 10 Yr old red paint. Prob same here.

I went to see two cars over the weekend, both red! I'm not particularily looking for red but it does look good on the car I think. One car 2010 with 31k miles, other 2008 with 20k miles. Both had exceptional paint finish. Almost certainly these have been garaged.
Whether original paint or resprays impossible to tell.

Be aware that Fire Opal Red is a non-metallic paint. The metallic reds are OK. I had a 57 reg SLK280 in Thulite Red which was fine. Very rare colour though.

Yes, these were a solid red so I guess Fire Opal Red.

The photo in my profile is Fire Opal Red 2008 vintage, but as I'm at least 3rd owner I don't know if it's been resprayed, nothing I can find in the history to suggest it has.

It's strange as it seems this issue went on for some time and affected a lot of cars. So not just a specific batch of cars or paint.
