Hi Guys, strange question, does anyone know the length of an Auto transmission dipstick for an R129. I have a dipstick but it seems too long.
Thanks.

They are all too long , designed for different dipstick tube heights . It’s the stopper before the plastic measuring part that sets the height

Thanks guys, the issue I have is that I’m not sure when I hit the bottom of the sump as I can feel a resistance when I think I have reached the bottom but if I push the dipstick it goes in further, only this I can think of is that the dipstick is bending at the bottom, hence the question about the length of the dipstick.

You aren’t reaching the bottom , the lump above the last couple of inches is stopping in a recess above the oil , the going in further is the flexible tube bending above .
What oil Reading are you getting

Is this the 722.6 gearbox? There are several others used on 129s.

Ok 722.6 then.
On the dipstick there's a plastic lump at the point the flexible metal part joins the flat blade. That is designed not to go past the measuring point.
The initial resistance you're finding is probably the end of the stick hitting the join at the end of the tube before going into the gearbox.

If in doubt measure the length of the tube and compare to the dipstick. That will tell you where the join is.
