OK. Make your mind up. Which are you?

Give us a kiss and I'll tell ya (yes I know I used it in the Oscar Wilde thread but it's a bit like "said the bishop to the actress" - universal application (said the bishop to the actress) :)

Pardon me for saying , but THIS forum is nothing to do with the 'Mercedes-Benz Owners Club' which is the one officially recognised by the factory and otherwise known as 'The Mercedes-Benz Club Ltd.'

The organisation associated with this forum used to be called the Mercedes-Benz Owners Association , then had to drop the 'association' from its name .

I doubt that it can legally use the same name as the official club .

Hi Derek

Changes have been made to the Forum area to avoid confusion.

Thanks,
Beccy

there is still a lot of confusion, between the mercedes benz club and this forum the mbo who are are publishing company run by owen newman publications who run this web site, and are nothing to do with the official mercedes benz club, and who are recognised by mb uk and stuttgart, they intice people to join them and get nothing in return except a monthy magazine, they just publicise national and internationnal events, this is not a club , as a member of a club you want to go to local, and national events and show your car, to partisipate in events , as a merc club member you can do this wherever you live in the uk and ireland, and are shown in the 84 page full colour magazine which you get every month if you are a member

Not sure which forum Someguyontheinternet is flagging up as possibly not up too much. But without this forum (other forums are available!) I probably would not have got my new (to me) s****y leather chairs, in grey, for my 124 saloon from retrodave.

I have a decent deal on my insurances from Lancaster for my older 1994 300D. The 1 Jan 95 registered 124 300D 24v is too new for their Classic Policy. I ask you 1 day!! Would it have been registered on 31 Dec 04 I would have been ok.

The oddity of regulations! Chris Knott has my other business. As recommended by this forum.

He means the Official Mercedes Club forum.

From what I see that club is made up of stuffed shirts who don't have much to say, other than insisting they are better because they are the officially recognised club......Great...!!

It's true the online forum is not up to much but the club is very much more than just the forum.

Can you expand on that as my impression is borne from what I read on general internet forums.

I know they have a 'proper' presence at many car shows, but it all seems a bit high brow and sterile...a bit of a p!ssing contest.

I might have the wrong impression.

I thought the missing letters were 'h i t t' but that didn't really make sense.

Re post 47, it's not this forum I'm talking about.

Will;

Perhaps as easy for you to check it out here

It is very much more focussed on the older models but the newer ones are slowly gaining ground (as they too get older!!)

I do dip in and out of the forum, never that much new but the overwhelming feeling is that everyone has met just about everyone who posts. With the only access to the forum via a £30 sub one doesn't get same sign-up as here. The Mods there are very strict not allowing threads to wander too far of topic. When the OP has the response requested there is no continued discussion. They also have very little time for posters expressing opinion that's not founded on, let's say, hands on experience. The depth of true technical knowledge is very impressive. Many of the posters have undertaken major restorations etc.

They are aware of their "stuffed shirts" image and they do try to "loosen up" a bit but without "fresh blood" it's not easy..

Of course this is all just my personal opinion ....

That forum is horrible, I know that one could say that I post too much here, but when I joined I answered about 25 unanswered post that had been up for a week, and I got told off by the mods that I was posting too much and upsetting the long term members, if anyone thanked me for any help that no one else had offered, they too were told off for giving thanks.

Thinking back on it all do you really want to belong to a club where all of the cars are washed underneath, inside and under the bonet in order to go to a meet, then put away till the next meet so that they do not get dirty.

We here on this forum and others deal with everyday motor cars that are used, sure most of us take some pride in what we own, and turn up at meets in a clean car.

Life is too short for all that nonsense

Television.

I take from the above post that you are still unable to keep your critical fingers away from a keyboard. Let me remind you of a few historical facts…

A few years ago you found yourself banned from the two main publicly accessed Mercedes forums; this one included. With nowhere to practice your hobby of ‘consecutive posting’ you joined the Mercedes-Benz-Owners-Club. Within minutes of becoming a member you popped up on their forum announcing your presence as if you were the savior of the tired and defeated masses. Funnily enough we thought we were doing OK up to that point, but never mind. A few weeks later, when your postcount had soared into the hundreds, and you had been repeatedly warned that nobody on that forum cared diddly-squat how many helpful posts you had had elsewhere nor how many times you had been ‘thanked’ for your efforts, you delivered your own coup de gras. The reason you were banned from The Club forum (no doubt the cause of your resentment) was because you chose to post pictures of the most horrific road accident. What could possibly have made you think anyone would want to see the half decapitated head of an unfortunate driver lying on the road after he had had an under-run accident? Did you further think that because said driver was the (ex) owner of a BMW that that somehow lent an air of acceptability and even humour to the incident?
Were you mad? For this reason alone you found yourself once again banned.

It serves no purpose whatsoever you having an occasional swipe at other peoples efforts on another forum however good, bad or ugly it may be. Furthermore, I would caution you to be very, very careful as to any future insults you may feel inclined to deliver. There are more influential persons than me watching this with interest.

Thank-you for your time.

Good Morning.

Well said. No doubt this will be moderated but I'm going to have my say anyway.

I very very rarely visit this forum. I have a few reasons, but one of the main ones has been addressed above. I'm active on mbclub and the "official club" and am certainly aware of this "stuffed shirt" fallacy.

The forum is not what the official club is all about. I do agree it could be livelier, but, guess what? Members there actually pick up the phone and talk to each other, and they meet up at events and privately. Wow, imagine that!!!

Just as a point of order Malcolm. The members of the official club are actually particularly normal. I have been a member for fifteen years. I don't obsessively polish my cars and have never washed them underneath.

Why is it you just can't let it lie? You've been banned here there and everywhere, I doubt that you will ever realise that it's your over-zealous approach that alienates others.

Grow up.
