I wonder Dave whether removing the badges and putting an older plate on would get the car overlooked by the light fingered. Shame you have to consider this sort of stuff but there you go.

Sorry, missed this one.

You mean like my old car was. :) I want to keep the badges on this one for another week or so, though my plate will go on it as soon as the V5 comes through...

Smart + others :)
Nicer areas might mean nicer pickings? And a more organised criminal willing to take more risk for the gain.

It will put the majority off nicking it, thats good enough. Anything yellow and black seems to work, physiology!

It is a relatively nice area, Emily's dad lives just round the corner (Hi Andrew), but I understand where you're coming from Carl. The house is extremely secure, with allsorts of additions to make access difficult, though if they really want it then they get it.

All I want to do really is make them look elsewhere, as I'm too old to run and can't fight. :(

Basically, I've looked for a visible deterrent and hopefully it will work

Shame you can’t have one of these mounted behind the front door.

I was going to suggest an HMG nest but the barrel on an M2 is a wee bit long for a hallway surely.

Maybe a Vickers? India still has them and plenty of .303 still going.

Get an Autowatch Ghost too Dave

I thought of this too, but this still won't stop a home invader from threatening the family to give up the code for it.

Ha thought the badges wouldn't last long:). Are you removing the wing ones as well? Look forward to seeing it at Phantom Winger meeting some time soon.

Not decided yet Peter, though still not got my v5 through either so nothing happening yet. :(

I should be up there this month hopefully, and not in the 190 either. :)

All sorted. Car always gets reversed in, so no problem on that score. :D

This is very much on my mind Craig, though there will be some "interesting" bits being fitted, just as soon as I get a chance to get down to my mates place.

That looks quite good?
I have a tracker on mine, though not registered, but still live :D
The concreted in post is a good idea, my mate has something similar in front of a couple of his cars. they aren't concreted in, they just sit there and he moves them when is takes the car out or the wind has blown them over, Still it puts off the honest people having a go.

So the key is (and we see this in EVERYTHING where there is a system of any kind)- the best way to commit resources (££) to improve a system is to incrementally upgrade each part of it. So, that strongly suggests:

Some money to improve car security (e.g. your post/ Auto Ghost)
Some money to improve house security (deadbolts, chains, alarms etc)
Some money to improve communications (how do you alert the police if alarm/ phone lines are cut?)
Some money to allow quick recovery of the car (hidden tracker, not published).

Ah fair enough Dave. Insurance companies are odd....

Sure are.
I wanted to reactivate an insurance policy that had a 10 year NCB! Not used it for 2 years, so had to do it.
One of the conditions was that I was the sole driver! Note the wife had not made a claim for 10 years.

So I switched the current insurance to this policy ( same company just a different policy no. ).
2 months later ... its renewal time ( based on the first policies cycle. )

Renewal for the policy comes in with a big hike! I complain and I am told its because there is not a second driver!
"If you put your wife on, the premium wIll drop 30%", note thats 5% less than the first policy was.
I comply and get my reduction ....

Mind blown I couldnt resist phoning and ask, why would putting my wife on reduce the premium?
Only explanation they could give was, if say I hurt my ankle on a trip, then their is another driver they know about, able to drive the vehicle home!!

Not even worth trying to phathom that out.

And before you ask ... no never hurt myself and needed a second driver ... so no logic there!

It's a nice area ..... we don't get scotes

Hmmm when I moved from South Kensington to Hampstead ( Lyndhurst Road .. nice part .. but not exactly Bishops Avenue) and my house premium nearly doubled. :(

The insurers explained that (then) Hampstead was a premium area, but it was surrounded by dross like Chalk Farm, West Kensington, Camden and Kilburn etc. ( all now premium areas lol).

Their logic was if you were a thief, who lived in Camden, you would prefer to drive 2 miles and rob a nice flat in Hamstead than rob a run down swat in Camden!

Likewise as South Ken was surrounded by Kensington, Knightsbridge and Chelsea and other premium areas it wasnt such a magnet!

They have an answer for everything eh?

Maybe they were right ... it was one of the few houses with a driveway and a garage.
One day I got home circa 6.30pm left the car on the driveway .. thought I would wash the car as it was summer.
Opened the garage doors, then thought I will make a cuppa.
Came back 3 mins later, smashed passenger window and one low life removing the radio .. and the other was wheeling my Karcher out of the garage.
Anyone who knows that road will know at 6.30pm the traffic just crawls past the driveway.
No one bothered ring the police !
London for you!

It does buy you some time to phone the police, barricade the doors, or grab a big f*** off knife to hack the scum to bits if he returns whilst he is trying to start the car.

But we live (very close by) up in't grim North and people speak to each other ..... even strangers ;)

I live da'n sowf in a little village in the sticks, everyone talks to each other strangers and neighbors alike, (I suspect many are related!)
Remember the scroats even the dumb ones don't sh1t on their own doorstep, so to speak....
The visible deterants are best initial defense:
House Alarm
Physical obstructions gates posts etc
External lights
CCTV; visible and signage
Dog warning sign (you don't need a dog for a sign).
If an intruder braves the above then surrender wellbeing is worth more than metal...
