Our old one should be all repaired now, it's gone back up North and now resides in Leeds. ;)

Muuuhhhaahhhaa the slippery slope of cheap Merc ownership .........................

Remove access to your bank account and if you have children give them a picture of you right now...........
they wont be seeing you for a while.

The very best of luck let's hope it stays a bargain :)
Agreed, they can be so expensive.

In my first year the unexpected costs came to £129...but that rose dramatically in the second year to...£476.

I'll be broke this time next year at this rate.

Welcome Jamesblaydon7, and congrats for a terrific find. It looks very good in the pics and at 16 years old it's only averaged 7K miles a year so well done!

If it’s an ABC pump MB now do a rebuilt pump, for around £500. Valve blocks can be refurbished with Viton seals.

Not sure where you are based, but find a good indie who can do the work and you won’t regret it.
Thereafter, change the fluid and filter every 2 or 3 years.

Hope to see updates, and how it all progresses.

Ok I wish to say thanks to you all for your comments. Most helpful .. it’s had a new strut last year have some paper work but a load missing ..the local Indy reckons a new tamdom pump is all it requires..soon as it’s cleaned and had chance to have a good look will post some pics ... may keep it till summer and make a killing thanks guys

Looks like a good find, at that price even I may have taken a punt on a 500, here's hoping the tandem pump and a fluid change sort it. :)

Yea well if you only start it 3 times a year it does keep the cost down,
and you must have driven it to the petrol station and back in the second year!!
:D

well yes pal but from what ive read on here , not many can go so wallet bustingly wrong as an SL500 ;)
Oh I don't know... Anything with an m271, om651 or m156 can be mind blowingly expensive if you're unlucky...

And then there's the hybrids.....

If the pump needs replacing I would insist the garage at least flush's the system with new Pentosin fluid before the final fill up.

Well done. There is a lot of knowledge on this site regarding SL's, but I am not one.

You’ve done it now....imagine if there was a 651 with a hybrid battery attached to the gear box, that would be mind blowing! Oh wait they did that
