May I recommend members to try NFU Mutual. It's a proper insurance company, not a broker, and because it's slightly old-fashioned (in a good way) it doesn't do online quotes. You deal with its local office. Malcolm if you're interested there is a branch in Pitsford, not too far from Daventry (I looked it up).

I have put all my insurances through NFU Mutual for many years and have been completely satisfied with both the service and the competitiveness of its quotes. I bet not many people can say that!

I have no connection with the company except as a customer.

Its a shame I cant use my no-claims bonus on 2 cars, I really don't see why I shouldn't be able to but the insurance companies say no. Surely the level of risk on my weekend car is the same as on my weekday car.

I think the risk is increased at the weekend by Sunday drivers (and more cyclists?)

What are the cars, an SL500 and what? We can often mirror bonus from one car to the other but if the second car is a classic, you probably know they don't normally accrue bonus.

My every day car is a 2012 ML350 AMG Sport with full no claims, my weekend car will be a 2004 or 2005 SL500 if I find one I like.

What gets me is you build up multiple NCDs then have an accident in one car and it affects all the others. Seems very unfair to me.
To my way of thinking the driver should have insurance not the vehicle (hard for the police to enforce) or a combination where the driver has listed vehicles (and I don't mean multicar policies as in my experience they're more expensive than separate policies where you have a classic or specialist vehicle.

To insure my CL in Daventy is £255 more, and on the SL up by £133.

The Joke is the new house is cheaper :confused::confused:

This now make the CL500 £625 With max possible no claim

I can see me shopping around next year, no time right now to do anything about it.
I have just this week renewed my cl500 2002.. 215 with Direct line for under £300..this is fully comp with two named drivers including my father who is 85.. If the policy had been in my dads name I was quoted over £800.. Crackers.
Our little Lexus 220 d is over £400..Who would want be an actuary?

Tried Chris Knot for my newly acquired SL500 (2003) since they insure my main car, with 8 years NCB. Although the lady tried very hard she could not even nearly match the quotes found by a couple of comparison websites - difference was several hundred's of pounds. Apparently the issue was that their broker would not accept the SL as a classic car.
The comparison websites only took a few minutes to arrange the insurance.
Will still try CK for the renewal of my main car.

Had quote's from various so called MB specialist insurance companies for my W215 CL600. Even had a trade quote! Eventually went with Pete Best ( Hiscock ) @ £224. When the other policies expire they ( PB ) will be the first I will be getting quotes from.

Determining insurance premiums is a black art which is not understood by those either inside nor outside the industry so far as I can ascertain.
Age is certainly a factor........my 93 years old father is commercially trapped into staying with the insurer he has been with for very many years. No claims and low mileage (less than 4000 miles/year) but his premiums rise every year.......I think now more than £700. He also cannot hire a vehicle in the UK.
Enquiries for alternatives have all thrown up figures deep into the £1000+ area.

Hiscox are a fantastic insurance company. Had three dealings with them on home insurance over the years and they were brilliant every time. On car insurance, they only operate through a few brokers, of which Peter Best is one.
