my cruise control used to work really well but lately it's very intermitten and sometimes works will work for a minute before it slops working and the car slows down.
do you think this could be a faulty switch or ecu?

Not poss to say with out getting it on star, could be cruise switch, brake switch, or ecu switching it off,
If it dose the same fault all the time then at least you know it will do it if you get it booked in somewhere for diag

At what speed does this happen,at speeds in excess of 60mph a big tyre size difference can do this

as malcolm, pressures can make a difference too.
failing that a session on star may help as mbsc says.

Hi,
Have you changed the tyres recently? wrong profile, low tyre pressures have all been known to cause the problem you have described.

When I first got my ML, I had similar problems with CC. It was discovered (via advice from this Forum) that 2 of the 4 tyres were 275 and not 295. I ended up changing all 4 tyres. Result? No more problems with CC. :p

This fault then is either the differences in the tyres is too great or the speed sensors need cleaning but the former is the more likely
