315CDi 2022 150bhp
Hi

I have condensation in both Headlights on my 2022 315CDi, as attached photos. It appears worse after a cold morning. Should this be covered under the warranty - Istill have a month left !!

I doubt whether a claim under warranty would be accepted as they would report a small amount is normal and the condensation should evaporate...

See;-

I agree with the above but, as you still have some time left, it’s worth it. I would argue, did it happen when new? If not, then you have an argument. Does the other side have the same issue?

I do also wonder with all shoddy modern build quality and poor materials, if you have a very fine crack that may not be visible causing this?

I had this on my SL which was a £100k car new, it soon evaporated when driven and would only appear occasionally parked outside overnight in winter, owned the car for 6 years and the lights never failed, I wouldn't worry..

Generally seen this sort of thing with a few modern cars, some get a bit around the main central lens, some by the odd led segment.

If it didn’t happen when it was new, for the sake of it, I’d log it now with the dealer and argue that needs revealing etc. If it’s happened from new, then sadly as above, one will have to live with it even though it’s a defect.

I've just bought a 2016 SL400. It looked fine when viewing, the car was inside. Collected it, drove home a couple of days ago and overnight it poured with rain. Both headlights (LED) now have a large amount of condensation, which has largely evaporated as today has been warm and sunny, but it's worrying as to how much will build up in the winter months and not evaporate. The quantity is huge compared to your photos.

Problem is in the 60's and 70's headlights were all sealed beams.
Modern lights are not sealed to the atmosphere and in the UK we mostly live in a damp climate with lots of condensation, unless the sun comes up and dries them out.

Am I to understand, benz with all their resources can't keep moisture out of a 1000 pound headlight! I understood the principle water and electricity should not be allowed to mix, perhaps I shud run my power points under the the tap fittings and hope the water stays out?.......

Moisture is everywhere, inside the headlight and everywhere else, but the electrics are shielded from it and will not come into contact with it.
The condensation you see on the plastic lens is the result of living in the damp UK, in higher temps you will rarely ever see it.
