Biggest difference I noted after deleting the egr was an almost total lack of particulates in exhaust. A much cleaner burn with excess oxygen. Better economy too which must translate to less CO2. If you are not using the vehicle in city areas, I see little problem with NOx, other than its legality.

Shouldn't stop the heater working but will reduce the amount of heat transfer and the speed of coolant warmup. You must have another issue.
