Mercedes C180 Kompressor 55reg W203
Hi all I'm Dave and I joined today. I am like all here a proud owner of my C180 Kompressor W203 Auto. Around 5-6 months ago the timing chain jumped and chew the head up. So I went to a garage and they told me I was looking at a grand to do the job and it would take 5 days to which I agreed, cutting a long story short day 5 came and went so did week 1, 2 and 3! The garage refused to answer my calls when I went to the garage the fella was never there! It got to the point where I blew a fuse as u can imagen! I had to rent a car over a weekend as I have full custody of my son and I had to get him to his mother's who lives an hour away! So when I finally went to pick up the car i deducted the rental money from the bill! After I paid for the repairs they done the fella said he needed to show me something, he took me to my car and then told me that when my car was collected (3 weeks prior) it fell of the recovery truck not once nor twice but an astonishing 3 times!! Well as u can imagen i hit the roof! Funny how he didn't tell me before I paid! He refused to give me my money back and said he would get the damage sorted! DAM RIGHT U WILL OR I'M TAKING UR CAR WETHER U LIKE IT OR NOT!! So moving on I got in my car started her up and my engine management light was on! I said to the bloke u need to turn this off! So he did! Again I got in my car drove down the road and again the engine management light came on again! So I went back and told him to sort it out! He turned it off again and told me it will be ok this time! Round 3! I drove down the road and yet again the light came back on! So I messaged the fella told him he need to take my car back in and sort his mess out! Well over the next 8 weeks I tried endlessly to get hold of this bloke! He wouldn't answer my calls nor would he return my calls! Then one day I was on the M25 and my car went bang! I broke down and was stranded on the M25! There was no compression what so ever and the engine was free spinning! The timing chain had jumped AGAIN! I got recovered straight to his garage and parked it in front of his doors and blocked everything in! I told him he needs to sort this now! It was 8 weeks into a 12 week warrenty! This garage messed me about over the next 3 months! They refused to repair my car! As they claimed it wasn't their fault! BULLS_IT!!! So anyways it got to the point where I was so angry as it wasn't going anywhere I went and took my car! No one wanted to touch it! And I found out why! The garage I went to have messed up lots of peoples cars and con people! They have shut down and 're opened in a number of places! Well blow me down! So now I'm stuck! Me and my family need a car we also have a baby on the way so it's a must! So I bought an engine from a proper company and done the engine change myself outside on the road! I was out there till 2:30am getting it out rebuilding new one and back in! All in all it took me around 2 weeks as I'm a full time dad and I work! So as u can imagen I'm limited to time! But I got the job done! There is 1 issue I am currently battling! I have a multiple misfire and I can't ****** find the issue! She starts and idles perfect! But when u press down to accelerate it runs rough and misfires! I've checked and cleaned all plugs, checked and cleaned injectors, there are no blockages, checked all air intakes and pipes! All earths are connected! I've checked and cleaned Airbox, I've serviced the car! I've had the MAF sensor out checked and cleaned! When the car is running I've unplugged the MAF sensor and car still runs and idles perfect! I am now lost!!! I need to point out that I'm not a mechanic but I'm not shy of engines, I've done a little bit! I'm at the point where I'm pulling what little hair I have left out! Please is there anyone that can help me, it's getting to the point where I'm desperate and need some good advice?

Thank you for reading and I hope someone can help me.
Many thanks
Dave

****** hell you've had a time of it!
Best thing to do is get it on diags and look at the codes it's posting
That will give a starting point to work from.
Where in the country are you?

Hi LostKewi
It's definitely been an experience to say the least! I battled it out and got the job done! I had a pal come round and plug in his dyagnostics (basic) it read multiple misfire! That was today! So I went back out there took it all apart cleaned, checked and put back together! But still the same problem! I am in london

Ok depending where there are a couple of good independent MB specialists can help.
Wayne Gate in Harrow springs to mind but I'm sure others will recommend some as well.

What codes did it come up with? Also what diagnostics it did they use? Not all code readers are effective on MB cars as there are several MB specific codes.

How much of the old engine did you use (as in sensors, coil packs, leads etc)?

I'e had the MAF out cleaned and put back together! But the one thing I'm a little confused over is when the car is running and I unplugged the MAF the car continue to idle perfectly! Is this Right? Or should the car cut out?

The engine can run happily without a MAF in most cases. Disconnect it and see if it runs ok. It will post an error so don't be alarmed when you see it.

I used the a couple of the sensors, air intake manifold, coil packs but I've changed them over with no difference! Same HT leads, new plugs! Seems to be firing on all 4 fine!

The dyagnostics was just a basic one! Don' know what make unfortunately. I Have disconnected the MAF while engine is running and it made no difference.

You've certainly had a rough ride of it without a doubt.

Multiple mis fire can have many sources, could be maf, vacuum leak, poor electrics.

It starts and idles perfectly. What is the idle speed exactly, and how stable is it?

So let me see if I have this right...
The car idles perfectly.
When you go above idle it misfires.
Looking at the codes it says multiple misfires.

You've changed Coils, plugs, leads, MAF and none of that made a difference?

If his idle is over 600 I'd start looking a vacuum leak.

All codes were cleared earlier today. After they were cleared I checked, cleaned and put back togeter. Started no issues! Idled perfectly! Upon pressing the acceleration as the revs went up it started to misfire. If accelerator is pressed slowly revs go up but slowly! Has new plugs, changed coil packs, HT leads are good! Engine management back on again.

You said you have had the maf out and cleaned it. Was it oily?
