Now, this dipstick thing, what exactly am I supposed to be looking for as I can stick my head under the bonnet now :).

A tube , maybe back left as you face the engine from the front of the car , with a small black cap maybe 2 inches across on top of the tube .

Good pics , but you will have to pull the big plastic engine cover off , my guess is it will be next to the red dipstick

A few rubber grommets hold it down pull it vertically a corner at a time

... and the autobox tube will be at the rear left of your engine, looking from the front. Draw an imaginary line from your brake fluid reservoir across to your engine oil dipstick (small red handle just seen at rear) and you will find it. Your's is the 651 series engine, which should have the five speed gearbox. If it is the 7G box it does not have a filler tube.

The plastic engine cover pulls off - but it may be a hard tug to release it.

I have not come across these alloys before, but weirdly they hace started to grow on me..I'm liking the alot.

The ATF tube is 2 inches left of the red dipstick handle so you have the 5 speed box . . It hasn't had an ATF oil and filter change either because it has a black tab on the cap . You want to make this top of your to do list .
