Cars 2003 onwards do not have cards, the keyless go is incorporated within the normal key

Oops I'm an idiot, thought they had cards too!
I have a copy of the last invoice from a Mercedes dealership in Chester and there was quite a lot of ABC work including complete bleed and vent plus about £200+ parts for the ABC so I guess it must have had a problem this was back in June 2009 at 72715 miles the car is now 86000 so a service must be due so I have asked the salesman to scroll through to see what the next service is just re-checked its last service was 85710 iles and the next one due is an A service at 83000.
I have now cleared my appointments for the day on Tuesday and I am going up to Chester Tuesday to try it/buy it?

I'd like to add my thanks to the members of this forum who have been helpful and given good constructive advise to me a new potential Mercedes owner. I feel confident enough now to at least give any car I look at a good informed once over.

Just a quick question about sat nav systems in these cars do they have TMC? the reason I ask this is because I waited ages to buy a sat nav and eventually bought a Tom Tom 540 Live which I find excellent because its linked to a mobile phone network and informs of delays (essential for around M25 etc) better than anything to date so is the sat nav in these cars good?

The Satnav can be set to dynamic mode, whereby it uses TMC signals to reroute you.
This I have found to be hit and miss when well away from London.

You'll probably need an updated navigation DVD.

Oh about the Keyless-Go. As Malcolm said from 2003/2004 onwards only two keys (separate cards for the Keyless functionality). It should unlock when you touch any door handle or the boot lock (up above the number plate). If the car is wet then it may take a little while to react and if you're close to the car and the handle is wet enough the car will unlock (this is expected and is warned about in the user manual).

To start you will need to keep your foot on the brake pedal whilst pressing the start button on the gear selector. You will also have to press this button to stop the car.

As above and for TMC you do need a TMC disc. the radio must tuned to Classic FM on the early cars, but not on the wide screen versions

I drive a CLS500 and traded a CL55 AMG in to buy it, both quick powerfull cars.....however I tested an SL600 (6L biturbo) before taking the CLS.
The V12 is EPICALLY fast from any speed in any gear, it will 100% spoil you for any other car, buy it.
That sounds intoxicating...

I have to confess to whimping out on the V12 idea because I just know I will not be able to resist using the available power and my fuel bill will exceed my available budget and now think the overall running costs will be too high. I have put an offer in on a 2005 CL 500 with the seat spec I require now that I have put my sensible hat back on.

2005 should be an excellent year for the CL. Ought to be rust free and very well equipped but old enough to be affordable and to minimize depreciation.

We look forward to hearing (seeing) how you get on.

Always best to take a friend along when viewing/choosing though.

boot net

As a fan of the CL500 (but haven't taken the plunge yet) can anyone enlighten me as to the point, or otherwise, of the net inside the boot? And not all CL500s seem to have them. Were they an option?
cheers

It's just a luggage/item tie down net.
There are number of fixing points in the boot. As the boot lining is smooth without any nooks or crannies that you may ordinarily use to store small items, its quite useful.
I think that it was a standard item.

Well I've gone and done it I really couldn't decide between the V12 bi turbo or the standard Cl 500 so I've bought a CL 55 AMG its a facelift model WDB21537442A032449 on the minus side it does not have cooled seats but on the plus side it does have a supercharger.
I'd like to know what the original spec was though
