Thanks, strange how they put massaging seats without the cooling but they do look different to the seats I've seen to date

Thanks the guy is putting two new Continental tyres on the rear and has just put new discs and pads all round so I guess one major expense has been dealt with for the time being.

looking for cl500

I spoke to a local indep mechanic with MB dealer experience. He said the ABC on CL500s tends to fail around 70k miles. Is that right? Is it just the case on the early models, say 2000/01?

I had 2 fail at 14k miles
I would say that there is not much truth in that, like all things they seem better now than what they used to be

MB changed from Bose to Harmon in about 2004-5 i think, still a ver y good system

Thanks I have a strange combination of elation and panic about it. I can't wait to give it a blast and turn up at my local Lotus owners meet in it this month and panic because I haven't sold my RX7 or my Subaru SVX yet and still wonder if I've made the right decision still I guess time will tell.

When you tear the tarmac out from under the first Subaru you want to pass, while sitting relaxed and listening to music, you will know it was the right choice.

And when you do, you know that the normal rear tyre life of those 285 tyres has dropped from 10k miles to 6k

That's just the thing about these cars, they are surprisingly nimble and swift whilst retaining an air of dignity.

You do get a nice growl from the V8s when you floor it and even with only 306bhp I've had the traction control lights come on at 45mph when starting to overtake!

It's quite unnerving that you can cruise at speeds well in excess of the legal limit in near silence.

They do make for very relaxed driving as you don't feel the need to prove the performance to all and sundry as they have great street presence right out of the box, so to speak.

The CL Chris is much quieter than the SL as the inside is cut right off from the outside world, the boot in the SL is not sealed off owing to the opening roof. The SL is still quiet though even at 70mph, I guess we are rather spoilt now and what do we replace these cars with, nothing the same out there now

I seem to have a different train of thought...don't bother, just keep driving it.

Just an update in the CL 55 purchase the owner of the car is based near Chichester and would not take the car or let me take the car to MBS to get checked over before I part with my hard earned. So it was suggested that he could take the car locally to Newtons so I phoned and spoke to Darren who very kindly offered to check it over this afternoon the results of the inspection are that there is a bit of engine vibration/noise getting into the car and possibly the cause could be engine mounts the passenger seat adjustment isn't working properly and there could be a break in the connection between the sat nav and its aerial. The big things like the ABC are fine and I noticed new discs and pads all round so I'm going to go ahead with the purchase which should be by Wednesday next week as it needs two new rear tyres (enormous Continentals) tax and a new key. Does anyone on this forum who has a CL 55 AMG have any comments on whether or not a little more noise comes into the inside of the car?

That sounds to have been a thorough and competent inspection. Has the owner offered to rectify the issues which were discovered, as a condition of sale, or how much have you set aside to make them good?

Always better if the vendor fixes it as that also confirms that the suspected causes of the problem were in fact the culprits.
