Rather bizarrely, I understand the fine for having no front plate (ie, must've fallen off officer) is less than the fine for an incorrect font, spacing or font size.
I tend to use heavy duty Velcro on the 2 cars with the smaller plates, mainly because they are low to the ground so can easily be pulled off if necessary to clear something.
