Thanks Blobcat. That looks much easier to use. I,m going to buy one.
It is very easy to use, Lidl don't have them that often but they're also available on Ebay for around the same money (£15)

Hi everyone. In the last two years I always used the vacuum manual pump and oil extraction is perfect. The proof is that oil remains honey-coloured for many weeks. If I measure exactly what I extract, it corresponds to the oil contained in the sump. I really doubt you could have left 1 litre of old oil. This could happen only if you have a short suction hose that doesn't reach the bottom of the sump

Just out of curiosity and seeing as we are talking about it here...how common is it for Mercedes main dealers to use the extraction method of changing oil?
I ask because my previous Audi dealer practices this method, or at least thats what they done when my S3 had its first annual service.

I watched my 63 being serviced at Inchcape MB Mercedes Cheshire Oaks and they used the old fashioned method, as did Volvo when I've seen the XC90 being serviced (big old brute up on the ramp that!)

Thanks Exp21 ,I had the suction hose pushed down till it touched something. As I said earlier the weather changed and it was raining quite heavy. I,m sure I could have got more out if I,d have kept at it for longer. Steve.

Most of them suck... (usually in more ways than oil... ;) )
It’s quicker for them and also as they don’t have to try and take out a steel bolt from a plastic sump the likelihood of cracking the sump is diminished...

Unfortunately yes. :(
Which is a pity because the good ones get tarred with the same brush...at least until proven otherwise.

My Smart Roadster gives me no option other than to use an extraction pump ... there is no sump plug if I wanted to drain it at the sump. I had a problem with the car & the sump pan was removed after using my Pela. There was next to SFA in the sump pan when I removed it. ;)
A tip I got for my smart was to unscrew the metal tube that the dipstick goes into so that you can move the sucker about a bit in the sump.

Steve, Next time you drain through the sump plug (forgotten what they are - I've Pela'd for years!) measure exactly hw much oil comes out. Then you have a baseline for checking how efficient your extraction pump is when you use it next.
