Its the black disc thing. That's the breather for the engine. If you are losing oil, It could be that, that could be allowing more than normal oil through.

I hope its not the oil cooler, I've repaired mine. You'll hate your car if you have to do it!
Is the car dropping oil on the floor?

Hi, guys, I have found this thread on google and I have decided to join. My Benz is also suffering from oil consumption but not that much(1 quart per 2000miles). I have exactly the same oiling on the engine. The pulleys are oiled and the driver's side of the engine too.the origin seems to be the front of the valley of the V. My suggestion is that the UK cars are LHD and the starter motor is on the nearside unlike the RHD vehicles. When the oil cooler leaks it usually ends over the starter through the weep hole near the bell housing. I had a burned out starter motor and probably somebody plugged the weep hole to prevent failure again and now the leak is finding another way. I will tear the engine down when I find time and I will let you know. What do you guys think?

Hi and welcome. I don't think there are any differences in the physical layout of the engine. To do so would be a major cost.

I would stick to advice that Botus has written and also at that mileage stop kicking the gear box down and revving it up to the limit go easy on it ! treat it like a high mileage car , easy does it!

I'm almost sure it is like this. I will try to find photos. Where is your starter motor located? Mine is on the nearside. I think that the weep hole is there too and the starter is obstructing the view. Has anybody with a UK LHD vehicle ever looked at it?

You have two holes on the bell housing the unused one is fitted with a plate. But the weep hole is always on the same side and can make the starter on a LHD vehicle toast.

I'm sure it's the oil cooler seals. It'll leak out the front of the vee and over the pulleys too if it's bad, and I've seen them block the little drain hole at the back with debris so it's absolutely swimming in the vee.

Yes, I also think the same, but I also wanted to clarify the starter position on the LHD vehicles. The problem is that everything is oily, but oil is not puddling or dripping. Probably it is being blown off by the wind while driving. With the oil loss of 1 quart per 2k miles seems plausible. I will try to repair it soon because my pullies are wet, the belt is cracking and the alternator is wet.

UK vehicles are RHD
Excuse me, I got a bit lost with the lhd and rhd terms. The point is that lhd and rhd vehicles have different starter location. So why is this important? It is because you can't see the weep hole from the starter directly and also because the starter may become damaged from the leak.
