It is interesting that car companies are having a real rethink about these obnoxious cars. They are NOT the answer with their toxic batteries. You have to move a piece of land the size of Guernsey just to root out enough cobalt for them. These cars are like silly toys......................Actually they are FUN silly unhealthy toys that are bad for the environment. It is no wonder so many people are going down this slippery slope, unhealthy is good, look at cream, chocolate fry ups, sweet desserts............Yummmmm

Being serious and talking to head tech at toyota i think alternative fuels will wipe out all electric/ice in the future, toyota are deep into development at the moment but time will tell, maybe hydrogen will be the future after all!.

I was talking to a chap about hydrogen, i cant say how he knows but testing here has been going on fir some time and the conclusion was that hydrogen is too dangerous for the general public to be trusted with , storage is -453 C° or there abouts

As they’re already trialling hydrogen in the mains gas supply I doubt your chap is correct.

maybe they will find a way around this, it would solve a lot of problems, ie no emmission, mining etc.

You need to have a conversation with Quinten Wilson and Red Dwarf Lewellyn they will not have it that EVs and heat pumps are the only way forward with wind power and solar energy.

Don't get me started on heat pumps, one of the neighbours has heat pumps and solar panels. Not seen them in shorts and tee shirts inside their house yet during Autumn. If the government stopped gas, we're screwed, that's our only heating source.

I wouldn’t go near a heat pump - few of the neighbours have - we have a few power cuts and being single fuel means they can’t do anything.
Even better with an EV… can’t even drive

Anything totally dependant on electric can be a PITA, and a heat pump installation is damned expensive!! Our central heating is gas, but the controller and circulating pump are electric, so power cut = no central heating. Internet needs our router, so power cut = no internet. BT now want to take our phone line to VOIP, which needs our router to be working. ATM we have 1 80's push button phone that workes even in a power cut, but if we're forced to go VOIP that will no longer work - likewise our 5 cordless phones all round the property. On top of that, last big power cut we had also took out the mobile phone masts, so never mind our mobiles batteries going flat (and we have 2 decent sized power banks in case) we also completely lost mobile signal!! BTW, both wife and I are in our 70's and considered vulnerable (wife) and extremely vulnerable (me) by NHS!! At least with a diesel car we have the possibility to pack a case and head off to somewhere (like daughter) that is still OK, as we did in the 1987 hurricane aftermath when we were lucky and only lost power for 4 days, where neighbours were about 10 days with no electric!

I have gas. But I have also installed a modern more efficient emersion so I have back up if gas fails. However I must get a genset to run either in event of power cut. I am working on that.

My whole apartment heating is run by a heat pump.
My gas boiler only currently supplies hot water as I removed all the radiators so in the event of a power cut I'll have to get the blankets out! Or I can always go out and sit in the SL.

Here is a snippet from an EV Chauffeur friend of mine out in Gods own.........................

So...here's the story! When I got back Weds night in the white Merc plug in, I said to Elon: "There's about 60 miles of driving left in the batteries." Subsequent to this, one of our guys, Bill , took Madeline (Franks wife) into Greytown. They almost made it back home.
About 2.5 miles from the Lodge, the bugger stopped driving. Battery indicator showed a little left. The upshot is, Harry called the rental people and told them EV's weren't appropriate out here and we need another vehicle...petrol or diesel...for Frank and Madeline. Plus...you idiots...you have to come out and rescue the stranded white Merc plug in. A technician and driver duly arrived with a charge pack and a new car...this black Audi thing that I took Frank and Madeline to Martinborough in today. Long story short...the technician and the battery charge pack made no difference! She's still in our car park because she is dead in the water.
So there you go! A brand new Merc plug in with about 220 miles on the clock...dead as a Dodo. It'll have to be trucked back to Welly! That's EV reliability for you!
As for this Audi...I forget what the model is...I'll find out as I take Frank and Madeline to Toast Marty tomorrow...but it sounds like a 4 cylinder turbo. It's quite comfortable...you don't break your neck getting in it (Merc EQC 400 has way too flat rack on the A pillar) and it goes well enough. I reckon (from my amateur test run) about five or six seconds to 100kph.
The plug in had no soul. This black one is really just a smoothie...it does everything right except excite you. It's all about A to B. But it's got all sorts of accompaniments and computer stuff. I mean...who ****** cares. You just want a decent drive with SOUL!

However this is in NZ and EV's aren't really taking off as yet, but out in the country, many miles of travelling won't be a great place to find a charging point. So this brings me to the question, why is there a rental company hiring out EV's to tourists who have no idea of the NZ roading network. Yes around the major city, Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, but there can be hundreds of miles between them.
The power of media :(

we have gas central heating, and a log burner, i know lots of people dont like them but when it gets to the minuses its toasty and we end up having to open all the doors so the heat goes through the house!, i only burn dry , clean logs and smokeless fuel.

Another visit to the builders merchants today and on the way there the radio was full of adverts for used EVs which doesn’t surprise me…nobody wants them…as you say power of the media, mind you if you must there are some cracking discounts on battery powered second hand motors out there
