ev sales are up? dunno what a radio ad as to do with ev sales. i see bmw/ merc adverts on the tv all the time but i wouldnt think sales were down because i saw the ad.
Another visit to the builders merchants today and on the way there the radio was full of adverts for used EVs which doesn’t surprise me…nobody wants them…as you say power of the media, mind you if you must there are some cracking discounts on battery powered second hand motors out there

The green lies continue, we are supposed to embrace a vehicle that will so often be charged up by a gas fired power station.

Wind Solar and Nuclear will not under any circumstances replace the 78% of fossil fuel energy we currently use anytime in the next decade.

We don't have a grid to distribute the electricity needed for all these Unicorn systems, we don't have storage and you can bet your bottom dollar electricity is going to be dear.

The energy market needs substantial reform and then we need to get our energy from under our feet and feed it into our network at a price that gives us a competitive advantage and people are not freezing.

Forget the willy-waving schemes the likes of HS2 etc just fair-priced power to give us the edge to earn the money to pay the taxes to develop solutions.

Umm so to translate SRDLs stats quoted above, currently only 36.1% of our energy comes from fossil fuels according to CEGB, and this is shrinking fast.

Just curious where your 78% comes from ?

This is the website. Gives data in almost real time about current grid demands and generating sources.

Today's stats are interesting - Gas 15.6% and Wind 54.4% And quite a lot imported from our neighbours.

No problem;

Summary

The UK remains dependent on fossil fuels for 78% of its energy needs—to heat homes, fuel vehicles and generate over a third of its electricity. This dependence has left the country exposed to the biggest global fossil fuel price shock since the 1970s.

so 1/3 of electric is generated by fossil fuels and the rest is green energy isnt it?, most part is our reliance on gas ,diesel/petrol but not electric?

How about this then?

280 ml range.......a bit optimistic. A friend of mine has a new one of these. He drove it very economical and was looking for a charger at 189 mls. Ugly side view, rears a bit easier on the eyes.

I was talking to a chap about hydrogen, i cant say how he knows but testing here has been going on fir some time and the conclusion was that hydrogen is too dangerous for the general public to be trusted with , storage is -453 C° or there abouts
Very funny thing - Absolute Zero is -273.15 Centigrade, so not sure how you get to -453

Just did some calculations today. 2006 v6 3.0 diesel c class, is doing 17.2 pence per mile on fuel (past 6000 miles) and cost me £2000 to buy

My Renault zoe did 14.2 pence per mile (at current home electricity prices of 27p/p KWh) and cost £30,000.

The zoe was pretty efficient for EVs, giving nearly 5miles per KWh on its avg 30,000 miles in my ownership.

At current electricity prices, it does not make sense to run an EV. Even a cheaper used one.

Solar/local generation/off peak charging changes the economics, but limited range means you will pay over the odds at public charging points and it will shift the avg.

Those figures are not right, I don't think. You are getting 5 miles per KwH costing 27p. That calcs to 5.2p/mile, not 14.2. Tell me if I'm wrong. I know my Kia will refill it's 74KwH battery for around $15 odd and goes 500km for that power....averages 15kW/100 or less. That costs me 3c/km. Our domestic power costs 21c/kWh. Probably use more on open road.

Good point.

Full charge costs £11.70 (41x0.27) however, in reality it would be more as the charging process is not 100% efficient.

That £11.70 gets max 150miles, which ends up being 12.82 p per mile. I was doing the figures from memory, must dig out the spreadsheet. So approx 3.65mi/kwh, the previous memory may have been the cluster reported economy rather that the total energy I had calculated previously from the wall.

If I add in the £350 a month that it costs on lease, that swayed it far in the other direction
