It may be infrared so a phone camera will see it if so.
Don't know on the other question sorry.

You talking about the main head unit in the dash? I tried that too..
Yes, the main head unit. The fibre (or maybe the connector) was orange I think but it's a long time ago. I had been sorting an issue with the GPS antenna and must have dislodged it.

You can get a D2B loop connector. And the you can - one by one- test the system bypassing each unit.

once I’d bypassed my amp, the HU lit up (but no sound) = dead amp.

if you have Bose, there is also a tiny fuse on the amp, worth checking.

I had checked the amp fuse and changed it on both I tried... I think a D2B loop is next on the list if I can find one!

Cant find a D2B loop anywhere to buy on the Web.. All seem to be for the newer most systems..

So here's an update on this...
Had a guy plug in the star and it said no signal coming from main unit.

Originally I couldn't see any signal being given from the head unit via the existing D2B optical cables in the car, so was looking at getting the head unit looked at for a repair... However as it is quite difficult to see the back of the comand unit to determine if the fibre optic is working, I managed to get hold of another D2B wiring harness out of a breaker and plugged this in to see what was happening... It transpires the comand unit is flashing from the rear 3 times from the fibre optic output, which suggests the command unit is OK??

I have then proceeded to check the D2B loom in the car... I get no signal being given to the Bluetooth module in the back at the centre console, or the small black box amp above it( no idea what that is) .

The larger bose amp on the right doesn't have anything flashing... But the CD changer wiring does and blinks 3 times when pulled out.

I tried to plug this side that flashes into the bose amp and looped the other connector, but it does nothing. I've also tried the replacement bose amp I bought and still nothing.

The CD changer optic loom will just flash 3 times (which I presume is the signal from the comand unit) and is the only one that flashes, so am still stumped as to what to try next.

Can anybody point me in the right direction from here?? Really want the sound working!!

Test each link in the d2b cabling using a torch.
Shine it down the cable and look for output at the other end.

Tried the torch down each end and they do seem to light up in all other connectors... I'm guessing a device that they plug into is down but I still can't figure which...

Is there any other way to diagnose what the issue might be??

It’s a loop. You know this already I’m sure. I started to type, but this video shows quite well how to troubleshoot it. Pay attention to the bit where he uses the loop to determine the order of the units. This order is then followed to check if each unit in turn is working and passing the light signal on.

The order of the units will not necessarily be the same in all cars

The issue is I need the earlier D2B fibre optic loop to check everything and I can't find a d2b loop from anywhere

You should be able to see the loop order using Star - which should also tell you which unit is down.

Star just says there's no comms between loop and the comand unit....

I have discovered that whilst the CD changer releases the magazine, it doesn't seem to play anything...

As this is the only items connector giving a light source from the D2B fibre optic loom, il replace the CD changer to see what that does, as used merc CD changers are relatively inexpensive - so il try that and see what happens...

So I thought I'd give this another go as I thought that as the CD changer was not playing any cds and just says 'no cd' on the comand when you try to select it, so I assumed the CD changer was bad as when I bought the car, the magazine was stuck inside it on the open position.

I Freed the magazine but all the CD changer would do was either take in the magazine, or eject it when I press the green button... It will not cycle through the magazine or play anything from the 6cd changer.

If I put a CD changer in the command units single slot, it finds the CD and plays... I therefore decided to try another CD changer to see if this would work...

Both another CD changer and it dies exactly the same thing!! Won't cycle the magazine or play any cds put into it.

I thought I'd check the fibre loom again - so when I go to the accessory position, the fibre plug for the CD loom will flash 3 or 4 times...if I shine light down it, it comes out the other loom for the amp on the opposite colour connector.

When I plug it all back into the CD changer (old and replacement one) the other fibre looms will not flash, which still suggests it is the CD changer??

I currently have 2 bose amps which I've also swapped and tried... And the gateway unit deffo works because as soon as I u plug it, the analogue TV station says no signal, but when plugged in, will flash up with a blue screen...

So still no sound.... Anybody help here??

Images below of the fibre loom.

CD changer, amp and Bluetooth module connector.... Can't see any light going into or from the Bluetooth one (far left that's not in my hand)
There is another connector in a small box under the Bluetooth connector I can't reach..

I have also gone into the engineer settings on the comand unit to check if this can shed any light... These are the 3 screens of info I got:

The first gives the n1112 code as active which is the communication between the units is down.

The second is a diagnostic page which I can't decipher but the suggestion is the first item is active and the rest are not.

The 3rd is something which I guess should tick as active if there is a connection??

Anybody help please??

Here are the device codes:
1C8 COMAND

108 Digital BOSE AMP

190 CD Changer

0F0 Phone

0F1 CTEL2 (e.g. 2nd phone in S class)

1F8 Voice Recognition

1B0 Satellite Radio Module (USA)

0E0 Teleaid Control Module (USA)

Lots of good info here:

You should see a signal from the head unit at the amplifier, then from the amplifier at CD player then from CD player back to phone then output of phone back to head unit.

You can clear the loop error by pressing mute and 0 when on the error screen.

I would have thought the devices installed should have a tick next to them but I'm not 100%

If that is the case, then someone must have put the d2b cables in the wrong order as the flashing cable was plugged into the cd changer instead of the amp...

Ive tried swapping them round - but no joy. Ive also tried another cd changer and amp but still nothing.

Il try the other amp and cd changer now ive cleared the codes and youve given the info sugggesting the initial d2b cable should be plugged into the amp first...sure i had tried this already but worth another go..
