Methylated spirit is good for cleaning, and all kinds of other things, hic!:Oops:

+1 for WD40, I use it every summer to remove tar spots, a squirt on a cloth wipes away tar but its nice and gentle on everything else.

Some interesting posts here. As I started the thread, the suggestions made have been useful. I have given WD40 a go and this certainly does work, spraying on to a cloth and then rubbing on the tar. I like the idea of methylated spirit and can see that that should work; will have to give it a try. Gradually I shall work through several of the ideas to see which is easiest to apply.

I bought a plain ol bug n tar remover, made by simonize from halfords donkeys years ago, works great and still have plenty left in the bottle......

Just tried WD40 and methylated spirit and WD40 works much quicker!

Being extremely health & safety conscious, :D I have some old drums of stale petrol laying about from old bangers that I've drained and keep it for exactly these sort of reasons.:shock:
