****** cars!!
And even worse so called customer service!!

I took it upon myself to contact the Mercedes dealership in peterborough this morning just to calm my inbuilt mistrust about the electro speed sensor / valve block that allegedly had been ordered from Germany and was supposed to be arriving today.
I talked to the parts guy and explained who i was..
He flatly denied that the part had been ordered but did mention an enquiry from a certain local service centre.. he gave me the name and number and I phoned them and they confirmed that they did indeed have my car.
I told them that mercedes of peterborough stated the part had NOT been ordered...
He said he would enquire to see what was gouing on..
2 hours went by and I then phoned the Mercedes dealership and found out that no one had bothered to pre pay for the part from Germany and so in actual fact it had NOT been ordered.
I was/am boiling with anger at yet more ****** incompetance..
I phone the place i bought the car from (Sterling cars in Peterborough) and told them what I had learned through my OWN endeavours!!
I was greeted with a tyrade of excuses and I told her I would have a refund as I have lost all confidence in the car and its "repairers"..
They have now had it 9 days and NOTHING has happened.
I wish to god i had left it with Blackpool Mercedes..
She informed me that they would NOT be giving me a refund and so I mentioned seeking legal advice..
She said "Go ahead"..
Thier "customer services" is lacking to say the least and so I shall name and shame here...
Sterling Cars.
67 South Street
Stanground
Peterborough.

I believe in freedom of speech..
You all know the amount of trouble I have had with this car in such a short period of ownership!

I am first to pat on the back when a job is well done but I am absolutely boiling mad about this..
Its the last straw..
I doubt i shall bother with another Merc to be honest..
My blood pressure has recently taken a battering and I cant afford big bills nor the hassle.
I shall keep my eyes on here and keep in touch via the forum.

diabolical how they can think they can treat a person that way, have they said what they are doing about the car?

So you won't buy another Mercedes based on your experiences with Sterling cars...right....

Google sales of goods act. That'll be the most useful thing right now you can do.

Just had a look at Stirling cars Peterborough and they sell other brands too.
Would they have given better service if you bought any brand other than Mercedes?

Was it bought on finance or credit card?

Part ex , part cash and 4k loan via them...
I went with them because the interest rate was lower than my banks.

I am sure your right about their "service"..
Its just an eye opener on how expensive Mercedes in Particular are when the go wrong. Remember the quote from Blackpool Mercedes was £3228 !!
I am totally Pi $$ ed off now and feel like driving it through their window.... (if the gearbox worked).

They said they have now actually ordered the part and the garage they use will do it when it arrives.
I dont trust the third party garage..
its a general service centre.
The car has been with them 9 days..
I am not prepared to wait any longer.
Sick of general crap service in this country !

So once it is fixed, what are you going to do? Cars can have problems at anytime and you know Mercs are/can be expensive to fix, so will you put it down to good luck that it happened so soon after purchase and so was done for free (even with bad service) and then enjoy it, or still try and return the car, which im not sure if you can do if they have put right the faults?
Im also not being rude, and of course dont know any other background reasons you have, but if you had to have a loan to buy the car it might suggest you dont have alot of spare cash to address disasters with it, which could occur with any car, which might be a tough and possibly unwise thing to do with any newly bought car?

Your not being rude at all.
your more than likely correct that I should not be running a Mercedes on the income I have.
Thats the conclusion I am coming to.
To be brutally honest I am trying to play with the big boys but dont really have the funds to do so.
I suspect I am not the only one on here thats doing this.
Mercedes are not Mondeos and will not cost Mondeo costs to run.

Thank you for snapping me into reality..

Chill Simon, you need to be calm and measured to sort this out. There will be consumer protection on your side, but if you go in all guns blazing they will stonewall you, just as a retaliatory measure.

I'm not an expert in motor trade dealings, but some on here are - I'd be establishing what my rights were and how to get a satisfactory resolution.

Better for the blood pressure too.

Simon, you are probably in the sae situation as me, i shouldn't have bought my 211 but you know what i couldn;t care less what others think, i fix what i can at the time and eventually everything is done and i get to drive a fantastic car and it puts a nice smile on my face.

what may be worth doing is contact them and keep calm while on the phone, ask them if they can increase the length of the warrenty to at least a year, you should have all the problems sorted by that time and it shouldn't cost you a penny. do you want to go through the process of finding another car that you wont be as happy in, i know i wouldn't and i do think you are the same.

you could also have them take it to Swavesey Garage who sold me my car years ago and do understand Mercs, not that far from Peterborough

Really sorry to hear you are going through this cr@p with that garage.
Developer is right though, you have the legal side of things on your side.
SOG act is a powerful weapon, but are you going to give the dealer a chance to fix this?

I'm also going to agree with Developer here Simon, in that you may as well give the garage the option to repair it before going in screaming at them.

I can appreciate the frustration, especially after the weekend, but at least they are getting on with it albeit at their own pace.

Give them another few days, let them get it all done for you, and you'll have a car which you can be proud of again.

All the best with it, but persevere a bit longer. :)

I'll bet the dealer is on a downer watching their profits disappearing.
Could they have been aware the car was going to bite back?

A problem with claiming on a warranty for a distant purchase is the obvious inconvenience of distance. It did sound like the dealer attempted to compensate that, even if to reduce the repair cost of Blackpool.

I'm not sure any modern car is cheap to repair, it doesn't seem like they're designed that way.
I hope it's the car of your dreams when sorted.
