Thank you Mr Catkin..
On the way home she sold herself back to me..
I went further north than needed to have the excuse of coming along a gorgeous twisty road south to my place..
I will keep it now..
I forgive her..

My Thanks to

At this point I feel its only fair to give a public Thank you to Stirling Cars of Peterborough..
Andrew and Sandra stuck by me despite my extreme anger at some points..
I actually felt very sorry for them as they were in the middle of it (as was I).
The really did bend over backwards and never once queried the bills for the faults..
Thank you Andrew and Sandra:D

Before you go for that long drive make sure your RAC membership is up to date.
I would have suggested the AA but with that bottle of whisyky you might have got the wrong idea.

Only joking, honest.

Well done Simon for holding one, your frustration for me was totally understandable. I have no faith in car dealers or repairers yet to meet an honest one in this country yet.

I am just pleased the dealer you got your car of honoured their obligation. The dealer I got my off did not. So you have been lucky.

I really do hope you can now start to enjoy your car.

Glad to hear all is well Simon....
I was looking at a 2009 221 S class 320CDI the other day and was smitten, but now worried about 7G boxes..any way I can tell if this car has the 7G+

To be honest I don't know how you would physically tell..
This is my 4th MB with a 7G box.. 3 of them were spot on with no problems.
My current car is 8 years old with only 46k on it.
I talked to Steve@Avantgarde about them as he has recently just done 2 electro plates like mine.. Both of those had done around 80k.

My car was from the London area and so no doubt loads of stop/start slow driving and maybe not even getting up to temp.
My gut feeling is that it may be a time issue rather than mileage.
One would like to think that due to the number of failures of this component that it has been steadily improved over the years.
My advice to you would be NOT to worry too much, especially if you are buying from a main dealership.
If not from a dealer then I highly recommend you use an indy BUT it has to be one with online STAR because the electro plate MUST be coded from Germany live as it were.
My angst over this past saga was NOT that it had to be done (I knew of the potential problem as you now do) but that it took so ****** long!
I have been told time and again by various mechanics that its 4 days MAXIMUM.. That's 2/3 days for the part to come from Germany as its not a stock item and not held at Milton-Keynes, and 1 day to fit and program.

So in a nutshell my advice is to look at the car you have mentioned and go for a decent test drive..Not just around the local houses..
You will "feel" if its right for you.

The engine is sublime...
What mileage has it done?
The simple prevention maintenance with regard to the inlet port shut off motor is to replace the inlet/Turbo oil seal every time the air filters are replaced. In other words every other service.
I did this to mine when I bought it and also sealed the seal with Hylomar Blue as it has the consistency of honey. You don't need loads. Just smear both the seal to turbo and the seal to plastic housing with it.

Hope this info is helpful mate.

I really hope this fixes it and the car gives you peace and quiet and smiles per mile.

Sterling cars sound alright, I'd buy from there as these handled this well.

Thanks Steve..
Now its running sweet as a nut it almost seems worth all the hassle.
Even my Brother likes it and he isn't really into MB

Glad to here its fixed Simon .Know what you mean re using the kickdown, just collected mine on Friday ( been on Hols abroad for a week ) after it blew the intercooler pipe off I fixed that with a £1.26 clip but she was still " blowing somewhere " anyway collected from The Indie after a new seal was fitted ... no charge as I had to fit the clip but still not given it full Boost or KickdownYet .
Looked at it out on the driveway .... why can i see the rear silencer he asks
closer inspection and the O'S hanger has parted company with the rear box so some welding coming up . ah well I'll just have to keep using the 430 shucks :)
