Make sure the charger you use is only a trickle charger 4 - 5 amp max. A high amp one can damage alternator internals if not disconnected first which you don't want to do.

Right. A CTEC charger is quite expensive. We have a charger already which MIGHT be right for the job. Can someone confirm this for me? It's an Energy 126 Battery Charger (bought in France). On the front it says the following:

12V 15 to 60 Ah
230 V - 50/60Hz T1A 90W
12V - 4A. IP20

I have no idea what most of those numbers refer to, but 4A does look like 4 Amp.

This is not a trickle charger though I don’t think- more of a battery disconnect and charge for a while then reconnect job? And not automatic charge in place I’m fairly certain. Is there a Lidl close by you could get one of their specials from?

If you have an Action shop near they sell a Dunlop 1 amp charger that does maintenance or charge that will suit for about €10 (from memory).
I found out after having to disconnect my battery that the radio didn't have a code. I checked this out with the MB dealer in France with the VIN number which confused us both but if it has a code you can still get the code from the serial number of the radio but this entails removing it if they can't help.
