Afternoon All. I wondered if anyone had any suggestions on what might be the cause of a slight oil leak under the engine bay of a 2002 ML that I bought very recently.
Having benefited in the past from the combined wisdom here, I'd like to check what people think it could be before I go back to the dealer. I'm obviously hoping that it won't be anything major required like manifold replacement.
When I bought it, I asked for the dealer to do an oil change (& oil filter), which he did. When I viewed it beforehand, I got the dealer to take off the engine cover and there was no sign of the dreaded "black death". There was also no obvious oil leak (or any advisories) listed in the recent MOT and nothing appeared to be under the car at the dealers after I'd test driven it.
The car has driven well since I've had it and was a pleasure to drive from the Midlands to London (2.5 hours on A roads and the M40) with no obvious "steam train" engine noises or similar. I'm hoping that the oil is simply excess oil that got spilt or left in the engine bay during the oil change - is that realistic?
I've tried to attach a pic to show how much the "leak" is - this was after 24 hours of being parked up with the car moved a few metres to show the oil . There were similar amounts for the previous 24 hour periods.
Any suggestions for how I might diagnose what the problem might be would be much appreciated!
Thanks very much in advance.
