Hi guys i have lamp defective warning on my car, and it is because one of the side lights is receiving about half the voltage and is not as bright as the other one. I have figured out that is a resistor problem. I buzzed out each of my lights and figure out what pins need to be used. On the light that is receiving half the voltage it did not buzz. The one that works seems to give me a reading of approximately 2.5Ohms (could be higher), what kind of resistor do I need, i.e. power rating and type? I assume it will need to be fairly high wattage.

Something like this perhaps?

Cheers

You have a poor ground lead some where near the lamps, there are no resistor in the fronts and there was a modified harness for the rear lamps where the bulbs kept blowing, 1 ohm from memory

There is a resistor for the front one, I could see it. I even used my multimeter to measure it, the good one of course. Its probably a current limiting resistor.

Well that certainly is a wire wound resistor, but I feel it has been added at some point

W210 2001 my resistor has just blown in my Left hand side light, its a 2.5ohm resistor of about 1watt rating.
Why do they need to limit the current to the side lights in this way?
Mine may have gone as i put in LED bulbs (CAN bus enabled ones) I cant decide if to straight wire or replace the Resistor. Anyone know for certain from Merc what it is there for?
Regards
Stuart
