Well after putting it off since last August (not having used the car that much) Finally got my hands dirty and replaced the radiator fan and controller. Pretty obvious why it wasn't working!

Test fitted some beta R230 PSE pump mounts. These are designed to lift the pump off the boot floor and enable you to get rid of the stupid foam around the pump.

They look like they should work well although the rearmost one needs lowering and both need widening slightly.

This is my alternative to a wet PSE pump Alistair......plants, they catch the water and keep my pump dry in my r230 ;)

Had a bit of an adventure with the smart car...

Went through a few floods... last one looked too deep to risk so turned around and went back... the flood before it had been deep - had a bow wave...
In the flood was a side sill from a smart car... I thought I’ll pick that up, so opened the door and rescued it. Stopped on the other side and noticed one of mine had gone missing, and the rescued one was a perfect match...

Didn‘t realise until I reversed onto my drive and heard a plastic crack that the under tray was hanging down at the rear...:(

With a good few cable ties, some industrial grade sealant glue and an old numberplate, repairs made and all back together. So pleased I turned around and found the missing plastic and that it hadn’t floated away or been run over by anyone else.

I've copied this idea from another forum that I use (A Ford Transit Forum) of all things!

I quite look forward to getting the e-mail notifiers that someone has posted something... De-badged their van, polished it, new wheels maybe... even a new air freshener....

Just a bit of fun really....

So, come on...
What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?
I had a go at cleaning the chrome false exhaust outlets on my R231. First of all I applied some alloy wheel cleaner followed by a power wash, then some T Cut followed by mechanical polishing. Result wasn’t great so am considering getting new replacements if the price is reasonable. Does anyone know how much replacements cost?

Is it coked up? If so, T-Cut is very mild so may be worth trying Meguiar's metal polish or similar, and even some white spirit first to removed the bigger deposits. (And then polish up afterwards).

The money pit strikes again  Seriously I don't think I have owned a car as bad as this since the Missus's Ford Escort Turbo diesel!
Decided to risk another drive out in the money pit after my hose clip mod seems to have worked. Well yes that did but the radiator hose on the other side blew out and lost my 5th fill of antifreeze :( Luckily I was only a few yards from a service station. I pushed the hose back in and filled up with water and carried on our way. A mile down the road and the low coolant warning comes back on  Drove to Halfords and purchased another hose clip and fitted it. Then noticed the overflow pipe to the thermostat was wet, on investigating it it came away from the header tank. %*^#! Back into the store and purchase some water prove type of tape and bound it up. Jumped back into the money pit and continued on to my destination. At a set of traffic lights I saw a car wash, so decided to call in and get some water for the radiator. As it happened there was a mechanic's garage there too so got the radiator topped up and on leaving I decided to go through the car wash seeing we were here.
This is the result of the car wash machine

I didn't notice it until I got home, I emailed the company, still waiting for a reply
They won't be able to wriggle out of this as I have dash cam of the Bonnet when I was working on the radiator minutes before the car was washed.
Not impressed with this car or car wash today.

Quite a lot of unscrupulous owners and dealers use colour magic polish to cover marks and scratches... I’ve seen loads, when they go through the car wash the polish is removed and the scratches show... :(

There is unfortunately no way for an automatic car wash to make those scratches...:(

Lane 2 of M1 north overtaking a Tesco delivery van. Male pheasant on the white line between lane 1 and lane 2.
I saw him lift off and fly towards lane 3 just in front of me.
He got most of the way across and only caught the very end of my mirror. Doing 70 at the time so the impact cracked the glass. No damage to the indicator or plastic cover - thankfully
Also just heated, no dimming so shouldn’t be too expensive.

R230 SL500 - oh yeah!
System on, top down....

First time in absolutely ages! Reminded me of why I bought it in the first place. I mean its a good fixed head coupe, but it is a much better roadster!

Well Rus, I was pretty shocked when I saw this, it's been through the car wash before without any issues. I went through the wash I thought something odd about the hanging wool type straps as they swissed back and forth. Not the same as the usual ones at my regular wash place. I use Never gave it another thought. I bought the car off a Mercedes Indy that had serviced the car for many years, wouldn't have thought it was a cover up on it to sell? But thinking about all the issues I have had with the car from the next day after purchase there could be something in what you say

Mother Mary...

It's like Edward Scissor hands with a grit sponge .

It certainly looks like it Gaz.

Cursed at it.

Looks like I am not the only one having a bad day
